Time to start the NBA stretch run folks.

We can change the title of the thread to Lottery Odds if (when) necessary.

Today, sportsclubstats gives the Cavs a mostlikely outcome of 8th seed in the lottery. http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NBA/Eastern/Central/Cleveland.html

However they do give the Cavs a 4.9% chance of making the playoffs. The slim odds are because the Knicks, Pistons, Cavs and Bobcats are all shooting for the last spot with very little chance that Altanta or Brooklyn to fall out of the playoff hunt.

They predict that if the Cavs finish the season with a 15-12 record, they will have a 56% chance of making the playoffs.

56% chance with a 15-12 record is kind of depressing considering the schedule from here on out.

Watch for Atlanta. They have lost 7 straight, Horford is still out for the year, and Teague got injured last night. They could fall quickly.

Yup, been watching that scenario for the last two weeks. Might help us out.

Site isn't even updated they are 22-33 not 21-33

ESPN has us with a 5.2% chance of making it. They gave New York, who has a worse winning percentage then us a 28.7% chance... They are even biased with probability. :(

And they just traded for Anta..antaw...ANTAWN JAMISON.

They are trying to tank

I actually believe Atlanta is our target, not Charlotte. I don't think we're catching them.

I'd like your take on why you think Atlanta has a very little chance of falling out of the top 8?

Their next 3 games are against Detroit, Chicago and Knicks, with the way the Hawks are playing right now there could be potential for even more L's. They travel to Boston because going out West for a brutal 4 game stint against GSW, Portland, Phoenix, and the Clippers.

With the injuries and overall poor play, I don't see them winning 1 of those road games.

the gap is pretty small with Charlotte. We play them twice. Win those two games and we're otherwise just a game behind them. Of course, lose either of those games and it gets quite a bit more difficult to catch them.

Detroit and Atlanta are the two teams Cavs can pass in the standings. Anything after that would be gravy. Very difficult to make up at least 5 games in the loss column to leap to #6 and avoid the Heat and Pacers. But if the crazy happens, tonight might be a first round playoff preview.

Dion coming back soon is a key part of any Cavs run to the playoffs.

Yes, I got up on the positive side of the bed.

Its crazy how many teams are playing the "Win in the future card". If 80% of the league is doing that at the same time, hasn't some GM did the math that eventually they'll have to fight with assets with the whole 80% of people tanking or coasting right now?

Dethroning the Heat does seem impossible now tho so I guess its the only option. But all ima say is that this is the most boring the NBA has been since iv started watching it

This upcoming 4 game schedule against playoff teams should gauge if the Cavs are going to be able to pull this off. I don't expect a 4-0 sweep, but at least going 2-2 would be a great sign.

we will see what this team is made of in March. talkin about a brutal schedule:

@Memphis
vs San Antonio
@ Charlotte
vs NY Knicks
@ Phoenix
@ Golden State
@ Los Angeles (Clippers)
vs Miami
vs Oklahoma City
vs Houston
@ NY Knicks
vs Toronto
@ Detroit
@ Brooklyn
vs Indiana
