This is utterly ridiculous, IMO.

Posting a credible news story is absolutely relevant and continues the conversation.

We live in an instant news environment, for better or for worse. To ignore that would be silly.
Holy shit I agree with you on something. I think tweets have their place, especially when they're about a breaking news story or event.

I agree on the "encyclopedic posting", sorry @gourimoko . I think we all can make a good argument without belaboring the point or reciting talking points. Bullet points and small paragraphs are the most effective I find.

A lot of us would prefer that people post differently than they do. But, we all should be allowed to make both good and crappy arguments, and post both short pithy statements and gouri-esque manifestos.

If it's too short, disregard it. If it's too long...don't read it.

Works for me. :chuckle:

If I can't embed a tweet, can I transcribe one and pretend that they're my own thoughts?

Maybe a happy compromise would be you can't just post a tweet or story on it's own? Need to add your own thoughts/context to the post? Keeps the conversation moving and discourages tweets which don't drive conversation forward and only serve to bait?

Just a thought.

We will not police length or content like social media links. Ain't no one got time for that.

And it is against RCF rules and etiquette regarding open discussion.

Gotcha, so Drive-by tweets will be allowed.

In my mind, BY DEFINITION, they are not political discussion but rather a form of "gotcha".

Please leave me off the invite list.

Im out and it'd be cool if this separated away from the main board asap

Let's be clear: People are asking for certain forms of media to be censored. "Drive-by tweet." Who determines that? Who determines whether or not POTUS' latest Tweet has actual value or is trash?

Does the Advisory Council have to parse every Tweet and make a ruling? Do the moderators have to source every link to determine factual correctness?

The whole point of this is to have a relatively open exchange of ideas and information. Not to squelch opinions or viewpoints. Moreover, there aren't enough moderators on the site, even if they all dwelled in that sub-forum all day, to adjudicate the validity of every Tweet, link or youtube video.

As @The Human Q-Tip said, people are going to have to grow thicker skins and learn to ignore shit they may find annoying or dumb.

There is no perfect solution in bringing back these threads. Not everyone is going to get everything they want.

I will say this though, nothing is set in stone. Once things are up and running, matters can be re-evaluated.

I think it is unfair to force Jking948 to compel people to do this. But, it is ideal.

This is exactly the type of baiting I'd like to stop in the new forum. You're not the only one doing it, but the liberal equivalent of "triggering snowflakes" never helps.

Is it not relevant to the discussion, given Trump announcing that he will now be advocating for teaches to have guns in classrooms?

I don't understand the philosophy with regards to not bringing in historical context from the President as a means for discussing policy platforms he's releasing today.

If he flip flops on an issue, or anyone does for that matter, is that not relevant to a political discussion?

The disdain comes when that information doesn't match up with the preconceived notions or argument someone else is trying to make.

While that is unfortunate, it's also relevant. Where I would draw the line with that is someone using some sort of unsourced nonsense on Twitter to bait and troll.

I posted something from the President of the United States.

I honestly don't get this.

Conservatives - especially libertarian-leaning conservatives - are supposed to believe in self-reliance and self-discipline rather than government intervention. It's our job to protect ourselves from our own bad choices, not the governments to tell us what we can or can't do. And certainly not the government's job to protect us from being offended by other people.

So why is it that conservatives in this thread seem to keep demanding that the powers that be here place more restrictions on posts?

If you don't want to read a long post, don't read it. If you don't want short tweets, then ignore them. If there are other posters who annoy you, just ignore their posts in this forum.

Nobody is forced to engage with anyone else here.

Why isn't that enough??
