He said "their arguments always eventually devolve into insults, name-calling, and attempts to silence dissenters. And, yes, I mean ALWAYS."

You agree with that? I mean, that's just factually incorrect.

If he's not going to be posting in the forum, what difference does it make whether he is correct or not?

Also, if some people view this thread or a possible future forum as just another opportunity to settle/rehash old grievances, we may as well not bother.

The ability of each of us either to 1) disregard a post with which we disagree (even if not using the ignore feature, or 2) simply stop posting/responding when a particular discussion point is played out, will go far towards making things work.

I never understood the continued participation in a thread by people who hate it.

Life is too short to focus on stuff we don't like. Like Crayt is going to do; if you don't care for the thread, don't post in it.

“Our anger and annoyance are more detrimental to us than the things themselves which anger or annoy us.”

I just want to make sure that's not the general mentality that people are going to go into this new forum with. If everyone's working under the assumption that the people they disagree with are only there to stir the pot and start fights, then this is going to be an exercise in futility.

Pretty good evidence right here as to why you should moderate this potential forum, IMO.

The one true king.

What if one person continues to ruin the threads in the future hypothetically? Belly flop after belly flop and every post is partisan team appeal without substajce? Is that person to be ignored or booted?

Willing to hear out arguments for both, but it's kind of nice not having kids at th dinner table

People are going to be partisan. That is unavoidable. We are not Vulcans. Even the most measured of us can snap on occasion.

My concern has always been personal attacks and people picking fights or being dicks. Shit arguments are very difficult to parse as quality control can very quickly be seen as a measure of bias.

But, I think as is with the case, formerly anyway, in S34, we can ask for a higher standard. By consensus perhaps we can determine what that is exactly and enforce it through soft methods. I believe jking is someone who can make those distinctions on a daily basis, otherwise I would not have asked for his help, and the group can weigh-in on extreme cases.

Edit: This forum can have its own ban thread for example.

The drumpf and libtard type shit is some dumbshit. Just me personally. I just can't with the Samantha bee and Steven Crowder type low quality shitposts intended to provoke while saying nothing of substance

Think it’s a great idea.

These political times warrant a discussion beyond the Cleveland.com troll tactics or tag teaming, trying to get singular posters banned, etc.

Count me among those suspicious of a soft coup on here.
Its pretty obvious that the political forum was purposely destroyed. Its no co-incidence that its being rebuilt on a foundation of exclusion.
Someone tell me, who has assumed the authority to invite and exclude from this new proposed forum?

I mean this from a genuine place. Respond or don't. But when many people take issue with you, sometimes it legitimately is a sign that you should consider adjusjng your behavior.

I don't see the distinction between Cray focusing on a forum he doesn't like and you focusing on a President you don't like.
He gave his honest opinion. You professed an inability to understand that mindset. I tried to help.

I think you misunderstand me, I think Craty is right.

This is not the place to re-hash grievances.

Respect the Q's intent.
I'm not rehashing. there is a disconnect with what continues to happen with him and how he sees things. I'm genuinely trying to close that Gap. We're talking specifically about how to do a new forum and the issues look like they're just going to continue because they just aren't getting it. Predictably they took it as an offense.

When youre a hammer..and I don't really think hammers are what we need considering what we're trying to do and why

I’m not rehashing.

(Continues rehashing)

I promise you nobody wants to read about the ill will leftover from past political arguments. Just send me a DM, I can ignore you from there without wasting the time of everyone else who wants to see the discussion improve and petty personal grievances take a back seat.

You’ve got to let it go. Or use the ignore feature.
