Preseason Game 1: Wizards @ Cavalier's

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
lebron james not starting the second half? why didnt devin brown play at all in the 1st half?

Its a meaningless game, we know what lebron can give us, The bench... not so much

i know its meaningless, just hopping he didnt tweak something....hell sit him 6 of the 8 preseason games.....play both jones 40+ minutes, lol...just as long as lebron does not get hurt and has his legs from the start of the season

So you guys can actually watch this game huh? I got to catch about the first 5 minutes without sound and then it started freezing on commercials and has been doing it ever since.

About 10 minutes of Jessica Simpson's face for Proactiv.

Some cartoon for some insurance company.

The back of some dudes head for a hair growth product.

Pisses me off.

When you Tivo the Hotnet channel while watching the Cavs game that can happen sometimes....ummm...I heard.:uhh:

This much we know thus far...

The Wizards have an improved defense...As for the Cavs ?? although coach Brown said the offense is coming, it's still the same offensive sets with pretty much the same results..

Little penetration outside of LBJ, and poor shooters shooting the ball with around 4 on the shot clock... :(

Damon Jones has looked sharp though... I'd expect nothing less...

Certainly one of those work in progress games.

I guess looking at the numbers, Shannon and Boobie showed some life.

Washington 81, Cleveland 62

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Exhibition? Excruciating was more fitting.

It's a good thing the Cleveland Cavaliers and Washington Wizards have a few more weeks to work out the kinks.

Antonio Daniels scored 12 points, Gilbert Arenas had nine in his first game back from offseason knee surgery and the Wizards beat the Cavaliers 81-62 on Tuesday night in an NBA preseason matchup of playoff teams from last season.

Superstar LeBron James scored only three points on 1-of-5 shooting and played just 15 minutes for the Cavs, who swept the Wizards 4-0 in the first round last April on their way to an Eastern Conference title.

Daniel Gibson started at point guard for Cleveland and had 13 points. The Cavs shot just 31 percent from the floor and had 27 turnovers, a stat certain to infuriate coach Mike Brown.

As the Cavaliers fired up brick after brick in the third quarter, one paying customer voiced his frustration toward Brown.

"Hey, Mike, do you have them take any shots at practice?" he yelled.

It didn't look like it.

Arenas was relegated to the role of cheerleader during last season's first-round series against Cleveland after tearing up his knee in a game. A summer spent in grueling rehab sessions seems to have paid off as the All-Star moved well.

It's his touch that was off, as Agent Zero went just 2-of-11 from the floor.

About the only highlight in a first half filled with airballs, turnovers and playground-style hoops was a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Arenas that put the Wizards ahead 45-29 at the break.

Washington outscored Cleveland 29-14 in the second quarter.

Before the game, James, who caused a stir last week when he showed up at an Indians playoff game wearing a New York Yankees cap, predicted Cleveland would win the ALCS against the Boston Red Sox.

The Indians eliminated the Yankees in the first round on Monday.

"I think Cleveland is going to win," he said. "Like I've said before, if there was going to be a team who beat the Yankees, I wanted it to be the Indians. I think Cleveland will do the same thing it did in New York."

The Cavaliers played without two key contributors from last season's team: guard Sasha Pavlovic and forward Anderson Varejao. The two restricted free agents recently turned down one-year qualifying offers from the club and their agents are holding them out for long-term deals they may never get.

Cleveland appears intent on moving on without the pair, who could both end up playing in Europe.

The Cavs, who will leave on an eight-day trip to China following Friday's game against Seattle, were also without guard Eric Snow, who underwent knee surgery last week and is expected to miss the entire exhibition season.

Lets hope the photographers are not given the opportunity to take a photo of this pair together on court again.

Boobie was a shining light

Amon doing his best Gibson impersination.

Few things I noticed

Ira Newble is done as a player. He's not even worth 2 minutes of garbage time. I actually thought he had game left and wasn't used properly at all by the Cavs. I was wrong.

Damon Jones looked good. The offense flowed better with him on the court and he talked more on defense then any other player. He might have the best vision of anyone on the team not named Lebron. He's auditioning for other teams right now and he's looking good doing it.

Dwayne Jones is a permanent D-leaguer. Anthony Tolliver looked more polished at both ends of the court.

I still hate Marshall.

To those who were lucky enough to see this specticle, did Felix or Tolliver impress?

We certainly missed Eric Snow's offense tonight!

Dwayne Jones cant finish anything under the hoop. he was spoon fed quite a few times by boobie but blew it. It was pure ugliness watching Dwayne Jones and Ira Newble on the court at the same time.

I agree about Toliver looking better than any of our bigs(other than z) who are actually under contract with us.

I really cant wait to see cedric, he has got to be better than Dwayne by default.

Shaky Start for the Wine and Gold

The Cavaliers still have 22 days until their home opener against Dallas on Halloween. They might need all 22.

Daniel Gibson tallied 13 points, but it wasn’t enough to bail out a listless Wine and Gold squad as Washington jumped out to a big lead and never looked back – dropping the Cavaliers 81-62 in Cleveland’s preseason opener.

In all fairness, Mike Brown used his starters sparingly – with LeBron James, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Drew Gooden playing only 21 minutes apiece. The starting frontcourt didn’t exactly light it up in their abbreviated appearances – hitting on a combined 4-for-21 from the floor – but that’s what exhibition season is all about.

"It’s the first preseason game going against another opponent so you know, definitely that’s not what we’re going to look like when we get close to regular season form," said LeBron. "But you get some jitters out of the way, and then proceed to get better."

The Cavaliers took the floor at The Q for the first time since being swept by the San Antonio Spurs in last year’s NBA Finals and looked out of sync from the opening tip. Only Gibson and Damon Jones seemed to find any rhythm throughout the course of the one-sided affair.

The Wizards didn’t exactly light it up, but they didn’t have to – holding the Cavaliers to a combined 30 percent from the floor. Antonio Daniels led Washington with 12 points and Oleksiy Pecherov netted 10 off the bench. Gilbert Arenas was 2-for-11 from the floor – including a 30-footer to end the first half – and finished with nine points to lead Washington’s starters.

Gibson was the only Cavalier to net double-figures, going 5-for-9 from the floor with four boards, an assist and a blocked shot. The sophomore from Texas was 2-for-3 from long distance in 24 minutes of action.

"Hopefully, over time of being on the practice floor and being on the game floor and watching tape, we’ll be on the right way," said Coach Brown. "There were times tonight when the game looked easy, but we have a ways to go on both ends of the floor."

Both clubs struggled in the first quarter, with Washington leading by a point, 16-15, after one. But the Wizards were scorching in the second quarter, led by reserve Antonio Daniels, and notched 29 points in the period. The Cavaliers responded with 14 in the second stanza and didn’t top the 20-point plateau all night.

The Cavaliers had a decent night rebounding the ball, with Ilgauskas, Gooden, Dwayne Jones and Donyell Marshall tallying seven boards apiece.

Gibson’s NBA Draft classmate, Shannon Brown, did nothing to hurt his chance for more minutes in Mike Brown’s rotation. In 22 minutes, the former Spartan notched nine points on 2-for-4 shooting – going 4-for-4 from the stripe. He had moments of difficulty on the defensive end, but turned a nice effort, overall.

The only other Cavalier to make any sort of impact was Damon Jones, who went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc for nine points to go with a pair of assists. Jones, Brown and Gibson were the only Cavaliers to hit three-pointers.

More than anything, the Cavaliers came out of Tuesday night’s affair physically unscathed and will play a back-to-back on Thursday and Friday before departing for their eight-day journey to China.

I thought Felix Wright looked better than Tolliver, and definitely Dwayne Jones. Wright is atleast a long body that can contest shots, rebound and had a nice back to the basket move, which Jones definitely doesn't have. I liked how active Tolliver is, but I can't handle having anymore PF's that get fed under the hoop and can't finish with a dunk.

I really thought Wright showed some promise. His one back to the basket move in the 4th quarter was better than anything I've ever seen from AV.
