Re: Pryor
The poster said accolades mean nothing as far as talent in college goes and then brought up Clarrett. So I pointed out the fairly simple fact that he won us a national championship. You can question his character - not his talent.
Pip I agree with ya, seems like he thinks he's a prima donna. Only hope he has is if he goes to OSU or PSU and has to respect Tressel or Joe Pa.
He also very nearly lost OSU that same championship. Kids like Traylor, Clarrett, possibly Reggie Bush, et al. cost their schools because of poor character and judgement. I have the utmost respect for Tressel, but Pryor is showing the same type of character flaws Clarrett did. Maybe Tressel can straighten him out, similar to Troy Smith...or, maybe he thinks too highly of himself and doesn't need a coach to tell him what to do.
Most of the OSU fans that I know are happy to have won the Natty, and will assess that to a great team with mostly great character players (Clarrett aside)...and they will agree that Clarrett played a role. But not one of them accepts him as an OSU player, as he disgraced the school and integrity of the program. The last thing they want is another guy like Mo...no matter how talented he is. He is just not worth the trouble.
Like George, I'm a Michigan fan, and take my fair share of scrutiny living in Ohio. But...I have no qualms talking about the disgrace that befell the UM basketball program and the punishment endured. I am ashamed to consider players such as Traylor and Webber as alumni and representatives to the school. I've also had no problem voicing my opinion on my displeasure of the hire of R-Rod as Carr's replacement. I fear that he will recruit the likes of the Pacman Joneses and Chris Henrys to the UM program...a program, like OSU, built on integrity, character, and talent.
He seems like douche for the way he announced his decision to delay then subsequently stayed out of the media spotlight until after he was able to finish his basketball season. He seems like a douche because he delayed his decision and saved himself and his teammates unnecessary denigration at the hands of PSU fans because he knew it was a distinct possibility that he would be playing the championship on the home floor of a team he knew he was going to spurn.
Don't forget that this is still just a kid. i don't know how old anyone is around here, but it is sad that adults can rip apart children because of a decision he made. Thank God that I didn't have press following along and noting every move that I made when I was that age.
He may be a kid, but he loves the attention, and knows exactly what he is doing. Otherwise, why would he (or his handlers) float a presser announcing that he was attending a Wisky-OSU basketball game (and bringing one of his boys, a sought after junior, who might be considering following in his footsteps as a football and basketball player) or let it be known that R-Rod and Tressel would be coming to a basketball...on the same day. He knows it garners attention and keeps his name in the national headlines. I don't hear what Julio Jones is doing every five days, but I hear Pryor's name at least 2 times a week, nationally as much as locally...and he knows it...and he loves it.
