I think this is pretty ridiculous for free tat's..

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The NCAA has suspended five Ohio State football players for the first five games of the 2011 season.

The suspended players are quarterback Terrelle Pryor, running back Dan Herron, receiver DeVier Posey, offensive tackle Mike Adams and defensive end Solomon Thomas.

The five players must also repay money and benefits ranging from $1,000 to $2,500. The players will be eligible for the Jan. 4 Sugar Bowl against Arkansas.

In addition, linebacker Jordan Whiting must sit out for the first game of 2011.

Looks like it was more than just some tatoos.

As part of their reinstatement, Adams must repay $1,000 for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring and Herron must repay $1,150 for selling his football jersey, pants and shoes for $1,000 and receiving discounted services worth $150.

Posey must repay $1,250 for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring for $1,200 and receiving discounted services worth $50, while Pryor must repay $2,500 for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring, a 2009 Fiesta Bowl sportsmanship award and his 2008 Gold Pants, a gift from the university.

Solomon must repay $1,505 for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring for $1,000, his 2008 Gold Pants for $350 and receiving discounted services worth $155.

Considering who Pryor's "mentor" is, this doesn't surprise me. Bad decisions, bad decisions, bad decisions. Ohio State will be OK in the long run, but next year might be a lost cause already. OSU's 1st five games next year: Akron, Toledo, @ Miami (FL), Colorado, Michigan State.

Are the jerseys, big ten rings, pants all property of the players or the university? If they are propery of the players why are they being sanctioned for selling their own stuff?

The NCAA is ridiculous in many of their rules and this is a good example of it. I'm not an Ohio State guy but even I think this is over the top as far as punishment goes.

So by my count;

2008 Big Ten Championship Ring Salesman of the Year goes to:
Adams: $1,000
Posey: $1,250
Pryor: $2,500
Solomon: $1,505

Pryor! The guy is just a natural born winner. Big Honorable Mention goes to Solomon, who I would have considered unlikely to be in contention.

After hearing Pryor complain about Tressel, and now this, I hope he doesn't see the field at Ohio State again after the Sugar Bowl. Pryor was all hype, never lived up to any of it. Sounds like his "mentor".

I could see the Bucks getting through that undefeated. I'm more worried about how the starters will adjust when they return, first game back will be at Nebraska. We are going to get an early look at Braxton Miller

Stupid, stupid, stupid... Tress has gotta be pissed.

Unreal....Cam Newton takes $180K and suffers no ills, and OSU players sell their own shit, and get a couple tattoos, and have to sit 5 games.....and considering none of them are sure fire NFL, these sanctions likely have a huge impact on the lives of 5 20 year old kids.

This improper benefits thing is becoming laughable. Who at 20 yrs old didn't sell a few things to make some extra cash? Who at 20 wouldn't sign something to receive something for free?

The truth is, these 5 are idiots for not taking their money through the proper channels...the boosters/ agents, where the money is properly laundered.

Apart of your scholarship is that you can't accept anything free.

Love the holier than thou vibe coming from so many of you. You realize these kids aren't allowed to have part time jobs to make money during the school year either? Stupid for what? Trying to make a little money so they can get by and maybe by a Christmas gift or two? Yes, I'm sure when you saints were 20 years old you wouldn't have sold some apparrel items to make some cash. Gtfo.

What exactly was the hype he hasn't lived up to? If they win this game, that will be two straight BCS wins within his first 3 years. What sort of standard did you have set?

Rules, I'm afraid, are rules.
