Coach Mike Pettine said he wants his first teams on offense and defense to stay in the game in the range of 15 to 25 plays. Those first teams, however, are diluted by injuries that afflicted offense and defense. The Browns had 18 injured players sit out the Tuesday practice in Rochester against the Bills. Pettine and his trainer’s staff is hoping to manage the injured players to be ready for the third preseason game in Tampa on Aug. 29. This will make the second game missed by quarterback-turned-receiver Terrelle Pryor, whose balky hamsting was re-tweaked on Monday. With so many players sitting out, the most compelling roster battle taking place involves kickers Carey Spear and Travis Coons. Both have had their moments kicking under pressure and the competition remains wide open.
