I'm looking at picking up a PS3 console, but am looking for some input. I am trying to figure out which one to get. There seems to be 2 different storage capacities. Separated by $50 in the price. What exactly is the storage space used for and how critical is the extra space? Any accessories that are critical? Anyone have any other tips, thoughts or opinions for me?

I've had one for years, since the 2nd month it was released, i'm kind of biased, but i love it.

I've had my 80 GB PS3 since Christmas of 2007. I've only ever come close to filling it up once, and that is when I had about 30 demos downloaded on it. I even own over 20 games and have never deleted any saved game data. Unless you want to be able to have like 50 demos on your system at any one time; it is hard to imagine filling up a 160 GB model. Another thing to keep in mind is you can just plug an external hard drive into the ps3 through one of its USB ports. I have my 200 GB external plugged up to it that I have random movies, TV shows, and music on. You can open the folders of the external through the PS3's XMB extremely easily, so really no need to put movies and movies on the PS3 with how cheap external HDs are. If for some reason in the future you felt that you needed more then 160 GB it is easy to install a new hard drive. It take's laptops HDs which have continued to get cheaper and cheaper, so you could easily upgrade it to 1 500GB+ for $50 if you watch for deals.

Buy the smaller HD. PS3 is the stuff.

PSN needs to get it's shit together. I'm so sick of these error codes.

That's my only complaint.

Honestly, it's probably going to be the best/worst decision you have ever made. I have a PS3, and have had one since they came out. I absolutely love/hate it. I go through spurts where I will use it for absolutely everything... games, demos, internet, PS3 Home, la la la... and then I won't use it for a month.

I have problems I guess.

But PS3's are great consoles and you won't be upset if you buy one. If you are trying to decide between sizes, definitely go with the smaller one. It is still huge and there is no way you will ever fill it up... unless you're going to store 100,000 pictures, 100's of movies, etc. on it :chuckles:

What games are you thinking about getting?

I've been on board with Sony since the original Playstation came out. I go through phases too where I'll play games for a while then go months without touching a game. I'm not into the war games at all. I mostly play sports and racing games... Sometimes strategy type games (Settlers of Cattan, etc.). A lot of the sport games use the Move function... so I'm thinking of getting the larger one because it comes with Move for the same price as the smaller one plus Move separately. One of the bigger reasons we're looking at it is for the BluRay and Netflix. Those are the big selling points for my wife.

Haha well there ya go! I actually have that on mine as well, and my gf (and I) loved it. That is... until I learned how to use torrents, and now it makes it pointless for me :(

Do you already have Netflix? The only downfall about that is... a lot of the titles that are available to watch via the PS3 are old and not that good. That doesn't mean there aren't some good ones, because there are, but a lot of the really good movies need to be delivered through the mail.

It's not really a big deal, but just thought I should let you know.

Um, the 320 GB model for $350 is the Move Bundle. For the extra 50 bux, you get twice the harddrive space and a move bundle that is normally $99. Just spend the extra 50 to buy the upgrade.

The Move is pretty fun as anyone can just pick it up an play. Got it for Christmas and my Stepdad who has never played a video game before become obsessed with Bocce ball. I woke up one morning and he had been playing it for 3 hours straight. He was very disappointed when I packed it up to take it home. Gladiator Duel is my favorite.

The best game is by far Uncharted 2. It is my favorite video game of all time, and i have been playing since Mario Brothers on Nintendo.

Also one nice thing about the PS3's Blu-Ray is it can install downloads to upgrade itself. When 3D came out, Sony just released a patch that allowed PS3 to play 3D Blu-Rays. I told my Stepdad he would regret not spending the extra $100 when he bought his high end Blu-Ray player. Between 3D and Move he will openly admit he made a mistake.

I have a 360 and a PS3 and I think that the PS3 is way better. So much more things to do on it. I have the 250gb console. I've rarely ever had a problem with it. It's a great buy.You have to but Metal Gear Solid 4. It's a must. One of the greatest games ever made.

You can also mod 360s now like you can with the 360 so you can play burnt games. But with the PS3, you can play games off of a external hard drive. You can also install a bigger size hard drive in the PS3 and install the games to the hard drive. Don't ask me how but you can install custome firmware to play iso files of game.s

Only play Tiger on my PS3, but with the use of movies, I have def got my money's worth.

PS3 is good stuff, and Move has a chance to make an impact in hardcore gaming thanks to the navigation controller and low overhead. There are already numerous regular titles (Killzone 3, NBA 2K, Resident Evil V, Tiger Woods Golf, etc) that are not Move games but Move enhanced; while last I knew we're still waiting for Microsoft or a 3rd party to prove that Kinect can enhance a real game.

Well, there is this article:

http://www.d-gu.com/microsoft-says-more-hard-core-kinect-games-are-coming/

which lauds the fact that such games as Child of Eden and Gunstringer will be coming out soon and will support Kinect. They refer to them as "hard core" games, but if you go to the bother of look at the trailers for the games on youtube ... you can only wonder what they were smoking when they said that.

Now that I sold my PS3. It has some positives and negatives. Free Multiplayer and Blu-ray are a plus. Shitty games and no one online to play with are negatives. Everyone I know plays COD on the 360 online. It seems like there exclusive titles aren't that good.
