-- Brian thinks that Hughes is a better all-around player then Redd (Hughes led all SGs in RPG, APG, and SPG) and provides a huge talent upgrade at the SG position.

-- He said there were no other logical alternatives at center than Z due to Curry's heart issues and Dalembert's restricted free agency status. Z, in the prime of his career, took a 5-6M pay cut.

-- The Cavaliers couldnt afford to wait on restricted free agents until July 29th because of the risk that they could lose out on some of the quality unrestricted free agents.

-- Brian called Sarunas Jasikevicius "the best player in Europe" and "One of the best shooters in the world". He mentioned that Sarunas is all but the Cavaliers for 3 years 10-12 million, but Cavaliers are currently questioning if he can play NBA defense.

--He said Jaric is thought of as more of a combo guard then a pure point guard and he likely won't garner a lot of consideration from the front office.

--Brian really like Damon Jones and his 43% 3pt and 12 PPG on the best team in the Eastern Conference, but thinks he is very likely going to resign with Miami.

--He said as many as 15 teams are currently going after Antonio Daniels and that it might cost more then the MLE to land him. That's scary because Daniels is 30 years old and has never been a full time starting PG in the NBA. Doesn't look like Daniels is an option anymore.

--Brian really hyped up Jannero Pargo. He believes that Pargo is a real up and comer and he mentioned how much Phil Jackson raved about Pargo in his book. Possibly a fallback option if it somehow doesn't work out with Sarunas.

--Finally, he talked about the summer league team. Brian says Luke Jackson looks fantastic out there. He mentioned Luke's shot isn't falling and looks rather rusty, but he is doing everything else wonderfully and he looks like he is fully recovered from his back surgery. The topic moved onto John Gilchrist. Brian says Gilchrist has a great shot at making the team even though his past is questionable. John has more of a chance to make the roster then John Lucas because of Lucas's lack of size and Gilchrist's NBA ready body. The fact that only 10 guys are under contract (if you include Z, Hughes, and Martynas), four more are required, and there is only enough cap space to add 2 more free agents, Gilchrist's chances are looking good, provided he doesn't meltdown between now and then.

Thoughts?

Agreed. I am very happy with the Hughes signing. In the beggining, there was no other player out there that I wanted besides Redd. Now that I really think about it, Larry provides more production on the court than Redd will ever do in a Cavaliers uniform.

Redd would have been brought here to jack up shots, and thats it. Hughes can defend and actually help run some offense if needed.

I would think that AD would get alot of interest. He is probably the best PG on the market. The Sarus talk overshadows AD here in Cleveland. And thank God, because Saranus is going to be a hellova player imo.

That's interesting. Too bad I still think Pargo is a bum.

just because jackson said he was good doesnt mean he will pan out.

i dont understand how sarunas's defense is that big of a questionmark.

Yeah, Pargo's bright young future was only because he was surrounded by players with bright young futures...

Jasikevicius is about on par with Jeff McInnis defensively.

He makes up for it though with his shooting, passing, leadership, and playmaking ability.

Just sign Jasikevicius and stop worrying about it - he'll be the steal of free agency.

Yeah, it's looking like we are going to get him if we do I will be sooo happy, solves teh pg and 3 pt problems..and we are good to go.

There should be enough money left for the big - perhaps bring tractor back.

Yeah I keep forgetting about the backup big, i'd like jerome or traylor..

Well to spend my dime, I have no idea about Sarunus, but I am wondering if people said the same about Arenas or Gnobilli.. I agree Pargo is an option, but I think there are others. Pargo is small, but he got hot when it counted last year. I would bet a steak that the Cavs are looking at trade options that woudl include a respctable PG and a defensive PF or PF/C for gooden and a swing man and I think the clips are are possible partner there.

Gilchrist is Wagner waiting to happen. He fell to no draft status for a reason and if he makes the team because he has an "NBA ready body" he will see no reason to change his attitude. In the best of all worlds he could be a Nick Van Excel, which is not in my book a compliment.

Luke has been busy on the court in summer ball, and if he were a true rookie there would be raves. However we need the shooter he is supposed to be, moreso because it is hughes and not redd. I think Friege and the other Big on the summer team have a shot, depending on what we can get for the vet min..

And for what it is worth, I like Windhorst... Seems to be more plugged in and a straight shooter..

If I had to guess, this will be the 14 man roster (as of now).

PG: Jasikevicius, Snow, Gilchrist
SG: Hughes, Jackson, Pavlovic
SF: James, Newble
PF: Gooden, Anderson, Frejie
C: Z, Oyedeji, Andriuskevicius

Maybe.

Hell I don't know.

I definately disagree with you on that one. Talentwise, Gilchrist blows Jarrett Jack right out of the freaking water. Talentwise, Gilchrist was definately a first round selection.

Dude just has attitude issues he needs to adjust and quickly. I bet he makes the team.

I wouldnt go that far..

He fills a big hole that we have on our roster, and will be a solid addition to our team, but there isnt anything he will do stat wise that will say, wow, this guy shoulda been on every teams radar.

He is a solid playmaking PG, with a nice shot and a lot of heart but very bad D.

The fact that AD is getting more looks, just shows where his defense is and why teams arent going to give him a chance despite what he can bring on offense.

He will be a good pickup for us, but he wont be a superstar here like he is over there.

I saw some videos of his passing ability. He is quite good at the no look stuff and his court vision would be a huge asset. The defense is a concern for me, but if he plays with heart like he does in his league it should make up for it, somewhat
