Recap of Windhorst on WTAM

I definately disagree with you on that one. Talentwise, Gilchrist blows Jarrett Jack right out of the freaking water. Talentwise, Gilchrist was definately a first round selection.

Dude just has attitude issues he needs to adjust and quickly. I bet he makes the team.

I don't doubt he has talent nor makes the team and as with wagner I hope for our sake he proves me wrong, but you heard it here first.. at the end of the season we will still be talkin about his talent, not about what he accomplished on the court.

At this level it is not about talent. You can't WIN in the NBA on just talent, you have to be willing to go get it. Even the KING of basketball talent would not be the player he is if his head wasn't in the right place. I could argue that Ricky Davis has more talent than Tim Duncan, for example, but Tim has the rings because of his attitude...

I wouldnt go that far..

He fills a big hole that we have on our roster, and will be a solid addition to our team, but there isnt anything he will do stat wise that will say, wow, this guy shoulda been on every teams radar.

He is a solid playmaking PG, with a nice shot and a lot of heart but very bad D.

The fact that AD is getting more looks, just shows where his defense is and why teams arent going to give him a chance despite what he can bring on offense.

He will be a good pickup for us, but he wont be a superstar here like he is over there.

people thought the same thing about Nash last year - thought Phoenix was crazy for signing him, said he had no defense. With Redd getting a $90 million deal just because he can shoot, Jasikevicius will be the steal of the free agency. I'm not saying he's as good as Nash, I'm saying we'll be glad we landed him (assuming we do).

I agree wholeheartedly, but you had Indiana and the Celtics offering him deals, therefore who knows exactly what to expect from this Lithuanian fire-ball.

Also Gilchrist might play a Jamier Nelson type of role, by being a spark-plug off the bench and chipping in with some quick pts (hopefully with an attitude adjustment)

Things all in all seem to be falling to place... when is Cleveland's 1st home game by the way?

If Gilchrist makes the team, I still think he could be allocated to the NBDL so he could get a solid 30 minutes a game and really get it slammed into his head how to run his own team properly.

He can obviously score and handle at this level.

Gilchrist is definitely worth taking a chance on and keeping around for a year or 2. If he doesn't grow up or develop than not much is lost since it's a cheap risk. The raw talent is there and the Cavs need to take a couple of chances on young playesr like him.

I'm not high on Jannero Pargo. He's basically a 3rd string PG but he might get more money than a #3 PG should get. Didn't he shoot about 35% last season? He had a few nice games late in the year and that's all people seem to remember.

I read elsewhere that apparently European scouts for the Pacers and Bulls said Sarunas' defense isn't as bad as most think. He's not a great defender but is decent and does work at it. With his shooting, leadership and ability to create he's worth a 3 year $10 million contract. He could have come to the NBA anytime in the last few seasons but is a superstar in Europe and paid well there. The Spurs went strong after him 2 years ago.

The Cavs will fill out the bench with a couple of experienced FA's along with but not just young unproven players. There's always vets who get signed late in the summer or shortly before camp. The Cavs aren't going to have their final roster in place by the end of this month so we shouldn't worry if every spot isn't filled.

Sarunas will be a good signing for Cleveland. He'll spread the defense with his shooting, giving more room to LeBron and Larry to work their stuff, plus when Zydrunas and Drew get doubled down low, there's Sarunas ready to pull the 3 point trigger. LeBron will also improve his shooting over this off-season, and I bet Larry will be asked to work on his shooting too.

If we land Sarunas and add a big man or two to the roster, it'll be a great off-season for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and barring injuries, you should see them make the playoffs next season.

GO CAVS!

Cleveland are about to commit to a NBA unknown with Sarunas, so obviously they may take some time to debate the issue. The communication lines seem open, so I dont think this delay has effected negotiations.

Gilchrist to me is an obvious choice as a signee from the summer league. If he becomes a negative, waive him. High reward, low cost signing.

-- --Brian really hyped up Jannero Pargo. He believes that Pargo is a real up and comer and he mentioned how much Phil Jackson raved about Pargo in his book. Possibly a fallback option if it somehow doesn't work out with Sarunas.

If we don't go with Gilchrist, I'd rather get Tyronn Lue as a lockdown defender over Pargo. Lue has really messed up Iverson in the past and we should consider him.

Tyronn Lue is an option, but only as a 3rd PG. We'd only need to play him when we're playing Philly or a team with a real quick PG.

I'm all for Saraunas. Damon Jones would be intersting, but I don't think we pry him from Miami, kind of like Udonis. AD could get more than the MLE and is probably too expensive for us unless he wants to take on a contract that Saraunas is going to take, less he can get from the 15 teams after him though so I really really doubt it.

Saraunas I like, just seems like the best option considering contract and everything. The D cant be worse than last year, right? I think having a system in will help a lot, even if the indiviudual D of the guys ont he squad aint that great

As long as Mike Brown puts in a good defensive system and everyone does what their supposed to do, guys like Sarunas not being great/good one one one defenders will not be an issue.

Team defense wins game, wins championships. Great man on man defense is a bonus.]

So with that, if we land Sarunas, it won't matter if he gets beat every now and then, coz there should be someone there to back him up.
