Ricky Rubio - Take the Money and Limp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Looks like we gave one up since it's been reported as the 2022 washington 2nd rounder which we already owned.
Bummer. Looks like we may not be getting a 2nd tonight then. So our night will likely be over after we pick Mobley.

We cannot use that money. It’s not cap space. That $4.8M has no bearing on anything the Cavs can or cannot do.
No, Rubio's salary is 17.8 million and Prince's is 13 million. That is 4.8 million added to ours. Plus they got 2.5 million in cash. That's half the money the Cavs can send out this year. Then they got a 2nd round pick. Again there were plenty of veteran PG on the market that won't make close to that. Prince could of went in another trade for position of need.

The cap space angle is pretty much moot since when (if?) we re-sign JA, we will have been over the cap even if we kept Prince. That means that whether or not we made this trade, we'd have the same amount to play with in exceptions.

You don’t seem to know how things work under the CBA. I promise you this doesn’t limit the Cavs the way you think it does.

The $4.8 million extra is absolutely meaningless regarding our flexibility, and they can still sign somebody for a position of need with the MLE.

Back up PG was a huge hole on this team. This seems like a good allocation of the assets we used to fill it.

It allows us to trade differently. Salaries have to match.

So we saved them 4m (13m vrs 17m) in salary and gave cash and a 2nd rounder. Ran trade machine and shows even trade at -1 for both teams without the cash and 2nd rounder. Seems to me we should have gotten the second round pick.

It's the very first move of the off-season.

Agree. Slight overpay, but Rubio fills a big hole. I think they were gonna target a PG in round 2, but that’s not happening anymore.

Prince's $13 mil was already on the books so basically they are just paying an additional $4.8 mil next season for a legit vet PG. I don't like giving up draft picks either but they still have 3 2nd round picks in next year's draft even after trading one of them. It seems like a real solid deal esp since Bickerstaff seems to already have a good working relationship with Rubio.

That's not how this works... the NBA is a soft cap. We're over it.
