Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They may have done it already, but I would like to see a highlight to the Cleveland rock and roll and folk performers.. Alex Bevan, Michael Stanley band , the generators, Charlie Weiner.. probably could include buzzy linhart.. there was quite a music scene in the 80s ..

Lot of deserving names.

yes, several names that should already be in there. but how is Sinéad O’Connor on the list? Would anyone even know who she was if she didn't cover the Prince song, her only hit.

Per the discussion a couple years back about DMB. @Randolphkeys

I guess they ran out of Boomer Bands.

Not a fan of DMB personally, but probably more deserving than about half the Boomer bands the let in they last 5 or so years.

Surprised, Cher, Foreigner and Peter Frampton not in already,

Also, if we are letting in Funk bands, hip hip and R&B, which they should, then names like Kool and the Gang and Sade should of been in years ago.

Parliment, (p-funk, and anything George Clinton lumped into one), The elements, Kool and the gang, Ohio Players then KC and his sunny band in that order for me.

Similar order but KC first. In the 80s I once went to a Kool and the Gang concert because KC was the opening act. I still don't quite understand what happened with them or the Bee Gees on us Radio in the 80s.

KC had to form his own record label to even release this in the US after it was already a #1 hit overseas because his label that released the album refused. It was a hit, but imagine if he actually had his record label behind it.

Then they broke up in frustration

I’m a massive Oasis fan. Their first two albums, Definitely Maybe and What’s the Story Morning Glory were their biggest. Worldwide tours, incredible performances (check out Knebworth 96’).

But after that.. albums weren’t as well received but they were still super popular.

The Gallagher bros are a different story. Right now, they hate each other and haven’t spoken in years. If they get inducted, I’d love to see them back on stage together but I don’t see it happening.

I have seen Kool and the gang twice, and George Clinton once.

I wont get into personal opinions, but Bee Gee's fall from grace was 100% because the country turned on Disco and they were associated with disco. Personally I think Bee Gee;s are under rated.

I like Oasis, but dont see them HOF worthy, i think as Bimbo has said about baseball, they are worthy of the Hall of Very Good, but not quite a HOF act, but that is a personal opinion and you can argue I dont know music nearly as well as sports, so my opinion is as strong as some of my friends who were professional musicians at one time.

I think the Parliament/Funkadelic crew was inducted very early on.

I wasnt saying who should be inducted, just giving my funk group order of greatness, lol, but a quick research and yes, they got in 1997, which leads me to question why not more funk bands. Clearly the genre is worth of the HOF.

Parliment
Sly and the Family Stone
Elements

That is it, although they have Chilli Peppers as funk and Prince as funk, and James Brown as funk, but they are not funk artists. Chilli Peppers are an amazing alt rock band, Prince is nothing and everything all at once and James Brown is R&B. All 3 are amazing, but not fuck.,

We need more funk in the hall for sure, Its ridiculous that Kool and the Gang are not in, they have a dozen or so cross over hits, the board is just so inconsistent who the let in. (yes, like me and spelling although to be fair, i am consistent with my spelling, just consistently bad, lol)

A fair bit of funk was crossover - R&B bands who would "get funky" for a few songs. Commodores would fall into that, even the O'Jays. Full-time funk was more rare.

I checked out album sales, and Kool and the Gang only topped out at 7+ million domestically, though a lot more overseas.

Weird, I looked it up, celebration is their only #1 hit, but the have 12 top 10 hits including Joanna, Cherish, Misled, Ladies Night, Jungle Boogie, Hollywood Swinging, Fresh, Too Hot and Get Down on it.

I love funk music, so I am clearly biased. And I do love me some Commodores too, I would say they are a funk band too, forgot about them. O'Jays are probably more funk than R&B and live in both worlds like the Commodores,

Still, Kool and his friends have 70 million in worldwide sales. according to one source. I am clearly biased as a fan, but still cant believe they are not in already.

Looking over Commodores Chart history, damn they have allot of good songs too,, Brick House is an all time favorite.

I can only conclude the voting board for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame needs to be slapped.
