Cavs Ron Harper

I was so sad when they traded him. I always wonder if he could have made a difference against the bulls. If we make past the bulls, do we win the championship back then?

He definitely was better than Danny Ferry. What a bust that guy turned out to be and they gave him a ridiculous contract as well.

Ferry was a solid NBA player but no where near the expectations he had coming into the league. He was viewed as Larry Bird 2.0 at Duke. He ended up being a poor mans Detlef Schrempf.

Strategically it was terrible judgment by Embry to trade Harper. Why would you consider trading a 6'6 young, dynamic scorer and defender at SG that can match up against the best player in the league? There were concerns he was hanging around the wrong people but who really knows about that. Gund and Embry put too much stock in that and convinced themselves they needed to get out from Harper before he spiraled out of control. Obviously he did not go down the wrong path and ended up having a long career that saw him get into exactly zero trouble.

Who knows if he would have had that knee injury if he stayed in Cleveland. That injury robbed him from being a perennial all star and potentially a hall of famer. But he transformed his game to be the key glue guy on many of Jordan's championship teams.

If they kept that core of Price/Harper/Nance/Hot Rod/Daugherty together for another 3-5 seasons, I guarantee we would have made it out of the east at least once and maybe have a championship banner hanging next to 2016.

No doubt…

I don’t care what anyone says, the 91-92 Cavs were the best team in Cavs history. The LeBron/Kyrie teams were more top heavy talent wise — but if you have a healthy Ron Harper on that 91-92 team there’s no convincing me they’re not the best overall team in the league and beat the champs…(yes, they beat a top heavy Jordan & myself)…

They had too much overall talent for the Bulls and matched up ridiculously well with the Blazers… Personally I think they beat the 1992 Blazers in the finals without Harper (would have been a great finals) —but with a healthy Harper I think they win in 5 easily…

That's a great reminder of how Joe Tait could paint a picture with words.

I was meeting a buddy from Texas one night to go out in the Flats and he saw me outside the bar sitting in my car. I had the window open listening to the game. He walked over, stood outside the car listening for a bit and said, "wow, it's like you can almost see the game, isn't it?"

I miss listening to Joe call games.

So was he banging Gund’s daughter or nah?

Harper's hands are the largest I've ever personally seen.

I remember when he showed up one afternoon at Cleveland State for a pickup game. This is after he had been traded to the Clippers. There were some excellent local players on the floor that day, including Mouse and Brad Sellers, but they all might as well have been marble statues trying to defend Harper.
