Rose Bowl: Ohio State vs. Oregon

I'm gonna give Ohio State a good chance to win this game. Masoli at times is great, and other times he'll make a terrible mistake. If the Buckeye defense can get in his face and force him into mistakes, they will be in the game. Masoli and James make a dynamic combo but their read option heavy offense can be disrupted by a good defense I.E. Ohio State. The Ducks defense has been pretty solid, but they did give up 51 to Stanford, 36 to Purdue, and 41 to Arizona. However, they shut down Cal(3 pts) held Boise to 19 and gave up only 20 to USC.

It should be a great game. Ohio State hasn't faced an offense as good as the Ducks and Oregon hasn't faced a defense as stout the Buckeyes. Pryor is prone to mistakes at times, and if he makes to many vs the Ducks it could be an easy Oregon victory. If Ohio State can somehow stymie the Ducks offense and play ball control offense they have a good shot at the Roses.

In the end, I think Oregon pulls this out in a close game.

If we can stop the option read, it's over for them. I watched the game last night and it seemed like they ran it so much that their offense basically revolves around it. I've only seen a few of their games and I admit I don't remember much about the other ones, but I know Oregon is a run heavy offense and Ohio State has a great D line and great D in general.

Still, nervous.

Oregon's speed and option vs OSU's history of trouble with option teams and IMO a lack of across the board solid tackling.... equals trouble for Buckeye Nation.

Pryor may not like it, but OSU HAS to control the clock with their ground game, keep Oregon off the field as much as possible. I predict this is what Tressel will gameplan- a ground attack and ball control and no mistakes. That will keep the score close, and Oregon will win the game with a final minutes drive when OSU plays their mini-prevent defense. I did not want this matchup.

27-21 Ducks, sad to say. Like said above, we're porous against spread option teams.

If we had problems with navy, were going to have problems with Oregon. We do have a great d-line, but the problem is they run it to the outside a lot.

Orgeon hasn't faced a defensive team like the Buckeyes yet. Pryor is going to have a field day tossing the ball up over there weak corners.

If I were Coach Tressel, I would look at film of the Stanford game. Obviously, OSU doesn't have a back as dominant as Toby Gerhardt, but Boom and Saine can both provide power in the run game. As long as OSU controls the clock and get come up stops on D, I like the Buckeyes chances. I'll say OSU-27 Oregon-20

I think despite OSU's strong Defense, this game could easily turn into a shoot-out along the style of the Navy game. Oregon's defense is not that great at all, but as everyone mentioned OSU struggles with the option spread offesnes. I think Pryor and Co. will be able to score enough to win, but Oregon will be with them blow for blow.

OU's line both on D and O are small and Ohio State should be able to put up well over 250 running on them. With the speed at LB with Rolle we should be able to stop there zone read rather fast. I see them getting a TD in the first then getting shut down the rest of the way.

Buckeyes will win IMO.. will be tough, but our defense will come through.. Pryor comes out and has the best passing game in his career also...
