Round 5 - Pick 140 - Dorian Thompson-Robinson, QB, UCLA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That isnt entirely true, only in practice can DTR play the best defense in the league. :chuckle:
#2 and #3

There. You’re set up for your next one.

He did throw further than 5 yards. In fact, on his final drive, he put a few DOTS down the field.

When he needed to, he hit some great throws. But that's not what the game plan called for today.
the throws to Coop and Moore in that final drive really opened eyes. DTR throws on time and in the pocket. Everyone had to adjust.

What we saw on the last drive is what DTR needs to do going forward. Kev opened it up just slightly and DTR gunned a perfect 20 yd pass to Moore. Followed up with a perfect 10 yard slant to Cooper. He has it in him!

Would love to see them come out next week and call a play action deep shot to Cooper on the first drive.

30/43 for sub 200 is certainly not good. Game plan or not.
If you add the 6 drops I think you would see less pass attempts as well. Guessing something like 29/37 for 220+ yards and no INT.

Not great! Not Awful! That’s why I am looking at the 8 games aggregate DTR experience and not game by game.

so open up the playbook and revert to g1. Cool.

1.5q of passes that didn't make it past the line of scrimmage today. The offense is either 1. Fucked or 2. Fucked with him, depending on what strategy you wanna roll with.
This is a bullshit take. You have no idea what DTR will do when Stefanski starts to take off the training wheels. It was the scheme, design, drops, and yes some bad passes that all combined to make much of the second half what it was. If you didn't see a glimpse of DTR's potential and coolness under pressure on the game winning drive, then what were you watching?

One way of looking at it for me is, I see how much improvement DTR has shown in live game action against elite defenses from game 1 to game 2. In my opinion he made a pretty large leap in his performance, mainly by sticking to the ultra conservative plan and by not screwing up. I expect to see him continuing to improve with each game, on a steep curve, until he starts to reach his true level for a first year quarterback (whatever that level is). Stefanski will put more on his plate gradually, never all at once.

It's not going to be a steady curve, there will be peaks and dips. He's going to screw up at some point, and hopefully he'll put up some unexpectedly good plays also. But through it all Kevin Stefanski will be pulling back on the reigns, emphasizing the need to minimize mistakes and turnovers.

That's how player development works. I'm having a really hard time wrapping my head around some of these opinions, like DTR is supposed to be some kind of finished product in game 2 of his NFL career. I mean, WTF are some of you thinking and expecting?

I don't think any of that is in dispute, they just think that PJ Walker (or the corpse of Joe Flacco?) gives us a better chance to win in the immediate, a premise I don't necessarily even agree with. But that is the thinking.

He is going to have to improve in order for us to make the playoffs, but I don't see any reason KS can't gradually open the playbook for him as the weeks go on. It will be up to him to execute when he does get a longer leash, or at least minimize the mistakes. If we can make a handful of throws per game and limit turnovers, we will have a chance in every game.

Candidly it’s because you’re not actually reading them to understand them. You’re reading them to get irrationally angry about it and put words in the mouths of people who have a different opinion. Your other post is the perfect example of that. There isn’t a single person who thinks DTR should be anywhere close to the best rookie of all time. It’s never even been insinuated anywhere. That take does not exist
