Monday NASA starts the journey back beyond low earth orbit. The first step in getting back to the moon.

Artemis 1 - next week - uncrewed trip to moon - 3 week mission
Artemis 2 - 2024 - crewed trip to moon, no landing
Artemis 3 - 2025 - crewed trip to moon, including landing. First moon landing since 1972.

My earliest vivid memories are the Apollo missions. The first landing is still one of the top 10 most watched TV events in history. I never would have believed it would take more than 50 years to go back.

I'm pumped - think about it: A lot of Gen X, and all of the Millenials and Gen Z weren't alive to see man step foot on the moon. I can't wait to watch with my kids!

This is really exciting. Always cool science going on behind this, including some work by some colleagues!

countdown is on hold, they have a 2 hour launch window. Official live stream is here

Unofficial livestream here

Rumors on twitter today's launch has been scrubbed. Nothing official yet.

Two issues

I imagine no one has heard anything officially because an official statement would come from NASA. Also there are enough reported issues that it doesn't take a .... Rocket scientist.... To come to the logical conclusion things will get bumped to Friday (next launch window)

NASA just officially announced it on the live feed. And yes, Friday afternoon is the next launch window.

Edit: forgot to hit post on that.

Couple of charts to show what we can do today vs 1969
