This offer just came across to me:

They Offer:
RB Warrick Dunn, ATL
WR Steve Smith, CAR
2007 Draft Pick - Round 2

For:
RB Steven Jackson, STL
WR Terry Glenn, DAL

Currently I look like this:

RB Shaun Alexander, SEA
RB LaDainian Tomlinson, SD
RB Steven Jackson, STL
RB Derrick Blaylock, NYJ

WR Reggie Wayne, IND
WR Terrell Owens, DAL
WR Andre Johnson, HOU
WR Terry Glenn, DAL
WR Michael Clayton, TB
WR Drew Bennett, TEN

Basically, I'd be going from having three stud RBs, to two studs and a decent one, and from two stud WRs to three. Normally I'd say stick with the stud RBs; however, there are a few reasons to at least consider this:

1) T.O. could flop, leaving me with just Wayne a s stud WR.
2) I'm trading two backups for a starter and a backup. Depth is nice, but you can only play so many at once. Having great starters is nice.
3) That draft pick is damn nice. This guy has the worst team in the league, so that pick should be high. Plus, as mentioned in the other thread, if the keeper structure is changed next year the talent in the draft will be much more rich, and this guy will be seriously regretting giving up picks.
4) Speaking of keepers, if the structure does change and I have to pick one player per position, Steve Smith is a better option at WR than either Wayne or T.O.

I'm not so sure on this one, as having an ace in the whole like SJ in the even that one of my studs goes down is pretty nice. But at the same time, if they stay healthy SJ is only going to start two games all year, when they're on bye.

Another down side if I take this trade, Dunn shares a bye week with Alexander, which means in week 5 I'd be starting Blaylock. **gulp**

Thoughts?

I wouldn't do that deal.. Personally, I feel SJ is going to have a breakout year now that Martz's all pass/no run play calling is out of there..

Furthermore, now that Keyshawn is in Carolina, you know some of Smith's touches are going to go Key's way, especially since he's a great red zone target..

Also, since Kubiak (or however you spell it) is in Houston, you know he's going to be able to bring that running style from Denver to Houston, which should allow for more play action, and other scenarios where their run could set up their pass..Which at the end of the day could really help Andre Johnson break out.. Not to mention their potential for improved defense in Houston, which could allow for more plays on offense as well.. I really think AJ could have a break out year, where as Steve could fall back (slightly)

Bledsoe also has a great player relationship with Glenn.. In fact, he might end up being your best reciever..

Just my 2 cents..

dont man, terry glenn will have one on one coverage all game with TO now there.

How many WR's can you start? If you can start 3, I think I'd go for it. That gives you 3 of the top 10 WR's and 2 of the top 3 RB's.

I think S. Jackson is a little overvalued. He is a top 10 RB for sure, but I think it would help your team if you make the trade.

LePip, I agree that Glenn has a good relationship with Drew, but you don't usually want to have 2 WR's from the same team on your team (unless its Harrison & Wayne, Fitz & Boldin).

Andre is a good WR, I am personally very high on the guy, but you saw what he did last year. That's what killed my team.

Yeah, at this point I'm leaning strongly towards not doing it. My team is so strong, I don't need to take any risks, and this would definitely be a risk, especially with Smith's health concerns. I mean goodness, he's nursing TWO bum hammies! Plus, if I think about worst case scenarios where I lose a starter and have to go to the bench, would I rather be done to just one stud RB or one stud WR? I'll take two stud RBs and one stud WR over the opposite any day of the week. And like you guys said, with Johnson and Glenn possibly having big years, on top of Wayne and T.O., I might be stacked at WR already anyway.

The only thing that makes this intriguing at all any more is the draft pick. I'm tempted to haggle for more draft picks and see how many I can milk out of him. He's obviously eyeing SJ as a keeper, and he might think it's worth it to scrap one year (by giving me draft picks) to get his stud keeper.

Edit: We start two at each position, LeJohn. And I'm not sold on Andre either. At this point I have Glenn as a hand cuff for T.O. in case he's injured or blows up at the Tuna and gets benched.

Doesn't help that Steve Smith will miss week 1 and maybe more with 2 bum hammies. They are really scared shitless that it might be more then 2 pulls.

I would do it. Steven Jackson could have a good season but what's the chances he stays healthy?

Plus next year u get a 2nd rounder thats huge!

So we have two for the trade (kev and LeJohn), two against (Pip, TCF), and cdt who just commented on Smith's health, not the trade.

I was thinking more about the draft picks, and I could counter, asking for both is his 1st and 2nd rounders, and to offset such a blow to his draft toss in my 3rd and 5th round picks. So instead of just giving me his two best picks he'd be trading them down. If he would agree to that, it would be HUGE next year, at the expense of taking a risk for this year. Don't know if he'd take it, but I could always try.

I got to thinking about it, and if draft picks are what I'm after, I don't have to take a risk on this season to get them. In this year's draft, I picked up an extra 2nd round pick trading away Larry Fitzgerald (coincidentally, to this same guy who's trying to trade me Steve Smith) and the first pick in round three for Alge Crumpler, both of which were then kept by their new owners. Certainly I could do something like this again. If the keeper format doesn't change, I would keep LT and Alexander, and then two of McNabb, SJ, Delhomme, and Wayne. Whoever I don't keep I could then trade for more picks. Hell, I might even be able to trade Pit's Def, if they keep rolling. Last year they finished third in overall scoring! The third best scorer in the league is certainly worth at least considering as a keeper.

If the keeper format changes to one per position, I'd probably have even more takers willing to give me their draft picks for my studs. Afterall, I could only keep one of LT, SA, and SJ, one of McNabb and Delhomme, and one of Wayne and T.O. Depending on how their years go, all of those players could be solid keepers who other owners might give up draft picks for.

So anyway, the offer as stands I'm not taking. I might be better this year after the trade, but it's a pretty big risk. I'm likely just as good or better right now without it. Looking ahead to next year, I don't need to make this trade now to pick up additional picks.

Now if I can sweeten the deal for me and get a 1st AND 2nd out of him right now, that might just be worth it. Keep in mind that this guy's team blows. I could very well end up with the #1 overall pick in the draft! Think I should go for it?

OK, I rejected his trade, no counter. He counter back with this, which I promptly accepted before he could change his mind:

North Canton Patriots has traded:
RB Warrick Dunn, ATL
RB Jerious Norwood, ATL
WR Steve Smith, CAR
2007 Draft Pick - Round 2
2007 Draft Pick - Round 3

And received from Nay Sayers:
RB Steven Jackson, STL
WR Terry Glenn, DAL
WR Chad Jackson, NE - Injured Reserve

Dunn and Norwood are likely as good as Jackson. Like LeJohn, I think he's overvalued. Plus, now Stephen Davis might steal TDs from him in the red zone. In Dallas, they have alot of receivers. They're actually really big on Crayton there as well. I think Glenn will be a good fantasy WR, but not a starter, not on my team. I traded two backups for a guy who (if healthy) is a starter and probable keeper, backup RBs, and two high draft picks.

Oh, and concerning Chad Jackson, he was on my IR, as I had no other room for him. When he got healthy enough to come off, I would of had to cut him. The only reason I picked him up was b/c I knew this owner was Patriot crazy and hoped I could work a trade. He has their QB, Marooney, 3 WRs, 2 TEs, K, and DEF. The only legit Pats fantasy player he doesn't have is Dillon. This also might be his interest in Glenn, who was great for them back in the day.

If we change to the 1 keeper per position format, Smith is almost assuredly a better keeper than Wayne or T.O. If we don't and we keep any four, I have to find a replacement for Jackson, but I think I can find four from among the players on my current team. Hell, for all we know Norwood could explode and have me considering keeping him!

Was thinking about it, and I now have more draft picks next year than I have roster spots. That gives me more bullets to fire in a trade later in the year!

Later in the year I may make a play for Antonio Gates. His owner has decent starters, but no depth. When that owner's lack of depth is killing him from injuries, and I no longer need all my depth b/c bye weeks have past and what not, I will make a play for Gates. If he rejects, I can now throw in say a 5th round pick to sweeten the deal!

Then, if we go the 1 keeper per position route, I'd be looking like:

McNabb
LT or SA
Steve Smith
Gates
Pit D
SD K

Yeah, that's not a bad foundation for a team. Add in that I have two picks in rounds 2 and 3, and wowsa!

OK, I'm not the only one who thinks I did ok in this trade. I'm finding out that all the other owners are pissed off at the North Canton Patriots for making this trade with me. :) Thank goodness I rejected his previous offer!

One owner was IM'ing me:
"Let's see you now have 2 of the top 3 RBs, 2 top ten QBs, 3 top ten WRs, a top 3 Def, and 2 top 12 TEs. OK, how is anyone going to hang with you?"

Considering 20 start at each position every week, yeah, that's pretty impressive. And with the selection of keepers I have and my new extra draft picks, I've pretty much locked up a solid team for next year already, and we haven't even played a single game yet this year!

Hey, I live there...but why aren't you representing L-ville, Chris? :chuckles:

:) Actually I've never lived in L'ville, just went to school for 12 years there. I lived on the east side most my life (East Canton). Been living in Apex NC the last 3 or 4 years. I suppose I could change my name to the Apex Nay Sayers.
