Texans' Record Watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So, we're the only city rooting against the Astros because the Indians are the last AL team with a shot to catch them, and we are the only city rooting against the Texans because we have their 1st 2 draft picks.

It'll be awkward in June when the rest of the country is rooting for the Rockets in the Finals vs the Cavs.

Why would you be any percentage opposed to that?

Because if we have a lower pick we can trade it for extra picks for the next season and still get a guy we want! It would be funny to see us still have picks from the Wentz trade though for a few more years lol

You do realize our record only has a bearing on our picks, not on acquired picks. So whether we win the Super Bowl or finish in last place, the remaining assets from the Wentz trade will not be affected?

You kind of sound like some of the Cavs fans around here used to, thinking the Cavs should tank before the season even started because they had become more obsessed with acquiring draft capital than for seeing their team win.

I think tanking is a much more viable strategy in the NBA than the NFL, as there is much less talent in an NBA draft and they are inherently top loaded. In the NFL draft, you can get quality starters everywhere in the first and second rounds and even past that.

Plus, we tanked last year. No chance we do it again. This year is about showing some progress.

538 has the Texans finishing closer to 8-8 than 9-6.

I'm still sticking with closer to 7-9 because Watson is going to cost them 1 or 2 wins in close games that a vet QB could win.

Those predictions are solely based on a teams' strength at the end of last year (and a regression to the mean). They do not take into account player movement in the offseason. Hence why the Jets are "projected" at 6.6 wins: they finished 2016 with a rating of 1389 and the formula actually regressed them HIGHER (towards the league average of "slightly above 1500") to start this season. The formula is not smart enough to know that they let go all their good players in the offseason.

For the Texans, they finished last year at about exactly the league average (1501). They start this season at 1502. Based on that, 8-8 is pretty darn reasonable but their prediction will shift quickly based on what happens in the first few games.

That really wasn't a serious post since I was replying to what was said and I put an lol at the end. I actually believe the texans and browns will pick fairly close to each other in the draft, but also we have the Texans pick from the Eagles pick so if the Texans do poorly, we can trade down and get another 1st round pick and keep the Wentz trade going was the joke. With two first round picks, I do not mind if we go up or down to get the guy we need since in 18, we are making a playoff run.
