I'm kind of sad Wakamatsu didn't pan out to be honest.

I'm really excited about Nolan Jones possibly debuting this season. He is patient at the plate and I think will be a high OBP player once he settles in. He's got below-average speed but I he's a good athlete with a strong arm - I can definitely see him in RF.

I watched him quite a bit at Akron and also loved his leadership. I think he'll be a really, really good player.

Another development guy pillaged.

If it was the pitching coordinator, I would be upset. Yet, have we really developed a hitter other than Jose and Lindor? Perez can’t hit. Most of the other starters this year will be from Padres system (Reyes, Naylor, Miller, ...). What is this guys claim to a promotion?

I'm excited to see him too Steve. If the OF doesn't work out for him I think he could be an extremely good defender at 1B. Either way we need his stick in this lineup ASAP.

Boobs, where are you at with the overall state of the farm system? I'm wondering if my optimism bordering on jubilance over many of the top prospects in the organization is justified or overblown.

Still more bullish on Freeman than most. They said there were signs he was starting to show some power at the Alt site, which was a year that probably helped his development working with that whole team.

Jones is going to play. He’s going to hit it all over the field and they’ll find a position for him eventually. Great arm strength, I think he can be a star.

Naylor working with basically a second big league staff at the alt site is probably great for him, I still don’t know if he stays behind the plate long term either. Valera hasn’t really played in two years, but if he’s everything the organization keeps raving about, and it translates to games, they think he’s a star in waiting.

Pitching is pretty thin for me, probably the biggest concern at the AAA/AA levels. Not sure this team can sustain much damage to the big league staff, and the bullpen depth doesn’t have me all that excited.

They’ll always continue developing a few guys, but I don’t see the same depth as some of these other young teams around the league.

So tough without seeing so many of these guys in games since 2019. That’s a lot of development, I can’t wait to get this season going.

One thought about the organizational pitching depth...

With so many rotational pieces under control at the top, not sure that upper level...AA-AAA...is that much of a concern.

Bieber, Plesac, Civale, TMac, Quantrill, Allen, and Moss...only Biebs reaches arby next year. While there will probably be attrition, we could theoretically keep that group together for four years, and most of it for five.

The depth we need to have is at A ball and below.

At this moment we have more MIFs with quality hit tools than we can ever use...and I like hit tools a whole lot more than power tools.

With the exception of Santana and maybe Kipnis, our best players in the recent past had better hit tools and not much power in the minors.

Choo, Droobs, Brantley, Frankie, Jose.
