The Athletic

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The digital content subscriptions you listed is completely different than journalism. Nobody is going to pay $5 a month for Lloyd's hot takes.

Yeah, nobody wants to pay for news and everyone complains that the journalism they get is shit. You get what you pay for.

It was shit far before people had to pay for it. I would say the internet and free news has exposed it.

RCF literally just had a donation drive that hit $2,500 in a bit over a day and you don't think people will pay $5 a month?

Also, the guys who write for The Athletic are absolutely outstanding. Their Raptors analysis is fantastic. Lloyd is a high quality Cavs writer. It's a smart move on his part and I'll pay to read him.

Damn, looks like i'll never learn. Given the topic of the thread, I thought you were interested in a conversation about journalism. My bad.

My point being, free journalism and the internet has exposed the Tony Grossi's of the world. Before you had no choice but to read his bad takes in the PD. As soon as people switched to the internet and had other choices, he was dumped. This site is going to need to bring other things to the table that you can't get elsewhere. We will see.
He's not here to do anything other than troll. Everything he posts is useless.
Who are you again? Have a blessed day.

5 dollars a month for what???

Is Lloyd going to reveal his sources ahead of time for 5 bucks? I get the newspaper is out of business basically because of Internet, but they're trying to make a come up.

Woj doesn't even charge $5 dollars a month and I bet he'd be a millionaire if he revealed to his subscribers before to twitter.

So will this site have Browns and Indians stuff too? Will each team be $5 per month, or is the $5 for all Cleveland related articles?

I wish Lloyd well. May have to pay just for final thoughts. It's really an advantage to get insight from someone who is at the game. Always a great read.

Yet...

They raised $2.1M last year. Y'all really think funding is just going to stop?

You guys need to read up before talking.

Forbes reported last month that The Athletic recently raised $2.1 million in a round of financing, including a $500,000 investment by Courtside Ventures. The latter, a $35 million venture investment firm, is backed by Cavs owner Dan Gilbert.

Yeah... but it's different because we don't HAVE to....

Self-empowerment at its finest.
