The Brian Hoyer thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It might not be a bad thing if Hoyer shows enough to be able to keep the position warm for a season for whatever QB they end up with from this draft class.

Lately QB's have been coming in and starting from day 1, but since so far this class hasn't showed the same refinement of some of the past guys then not having to rush one of them would be preferred

I think people forget how deep the QB position is in this draft.

Bridgewater, Boyd, Manziel, Mariotta, Hundley, Fales, McCarron, Carr, Murray. There's a lot of QB's that would have been ranked higher than any of the QB's last year.

That's great, but I want the best. Not second best or third best. We've tried all that already.

It's all relative. The 2nd best QB 2 years ago was RG3. You'd take him. Hell the 3rd best was Tannehill and he has shown good stuff. Some years are better QB crops than others. The best QB in last year's class was either Geno Smith or EJ Manuel, take your pick. Not sure I wanted either of them.

I would take Luck over RG3 any day of the week.

Sure but if RG3 was in last year's draft he's #1 by a mile. The year he's drafted though he's clearly the 2nd best QB therefore proving my point.

I don't care if we get the best QB in the draft, I want a QB that I can win a super bowl with. Some years there are 0 guys who can do it while others you have 2-3.

I'm not sure you can win a superbowl with RG3, I don't know if he can stay healthy a full season.

I'd take Wilson over RG3. When are we going to give that little midget some props? He's not bad at all.

So everyone focused on great QB's at the top of the draft they can be found later too. It's just like most of you, I'm 99% confident we'll miss on them like we always do.

Anyone one player is one hit away from being out a considerable amount of time, and Andrew Luck is no different.

Not to mention, Luck is the exact equivalent of Trent Richardson at the QB spot. He was hyped as the best prospect at his position since ____, and everyone overvalued him because of what he's supposed to be rather than how he's preforming.

On comparison, he's thrown for 1 less yard than Russel Wilson on 20 more passes, thrown for an equivalent completion percentage (64ish) this season, not taking in for the account of his 23/18 season a year ago where he completed passes at a Brandon Weeden level.

In all honesty and in my opinion? He was overrated last year because of the Pagano hooplah, and dare I say it? At this point, I'd rather have RG3, Tannehill, and Wilson.

There is no way I'm taking Tannehill or Wilson over Luck.

There isn't much to support that theory, Wilson is protected by an incredible running game and defense. Tannehill just hasn't done all that much to warrant being given the nod over Luck.

Back to Brian Hoyer....he is THE NEXT BRADY. Book it!!

Just not sure which one. :(

If you don't see what Luck has done with that supporting cast and come away impressed, you don't know what to look for.

On to Hoyer, I don't think his arm is below average from what I've seen. He doesn't have a cannon like Weeden or Vinny Testaverde, but I don't see a hindrance.

I didn't say over Luck, I said over RG3. Did RG3 not benefit from a great running attack too? His running back was second in the league in rushing last season.

It's not like Seattle was tearing it up before he became the starter either.

DJ did, not you.

Kelly Holcomb is watching somewhere in his recliner, nodding with approval while watching Hoyer highlights

Kelly Holcomb lives here in the same town as me, outside of Nashville. He does all the MTSU football games as a color analyst and he worked the broadcast for my daughters highschool football team ranked 8th in the state a few weekends ago.

Aside from working the games, he gets paid to play golf with guys around here, kick their ass and tell them stories about the NFL. :chuckles:
