Literally introduced like 5 D-League caliber players at an open house press conference today and celebrated

Joe Harris and Anthony Bennett amongst them....

:chuckle:

These guys are in trouble. What I gather they are trying to do is sign a bunch of young guys who haven't gotten close to reaching their potential, and overall, hoping one of these guys "hits." If everything goes well - Lin plays good as a starter, Hollis-Jefferson, Caris LeVert, and Kilpatrick improve, and one of Bennett, Booker, or Joey Buckets hits - they probably can win 35 games.

More than likely, though, my bet is they win twenty games or less.

The Stepien rule needs adapted so that you can't trade "rights to swap picks" in consecutive years either.

That or the horrendous BKN-BOS trade should have been vetoed.

God was that trade awful.

Barring some unforeseen, incredible circumstances, Brooklyn won't be able to make the playoffs for the next half-decade. Had that stupid BOS-BKN trade not gone through, or had your suggestions been implemented, the Nets could have been a borderline playoff team in three years. Just dumB.

The second I heard about that trade, I thought, "Bill Simmons must love this trade. Celtics got a kings ransom for aging, mediocre players."

And he went on a tirade about how the Celtics didn't get enough. Right after criticizing the Cavs for not taking Derrick Williams and Brandon Knight over Kyrie and TT.

And yet he criticizes NBA GMs more than anyone.

I actually like what the Nets tried to do with Tyler Johnson and Allen Crabbe, but such is the nature of restricted free agency.

They obviously have no incentive to tank for the next couple of years so I figure they'll try to remain very aggressive in the next few offseasons.

If Sean Marks creates a playoff team in the next decade i vote the NBA re-name the GM of the year award after him. Dude has some serious work to do. They are essentially an expansion team without the lottery pick

The sad thing is I actually like Bill Simmons. I mean, he's a huge homer, but I know I can be one too. But yeah, he gets really emotional and sounds off too early with his opinion. His comments on the trade and being a GM are obnoxious.

Honestly the Brooklyn Nets (for as much hype as they got around 2010) are easily the new late 90's Clippers...

Bojan Bogdanovic isn't quite in the Eric Piatkowski class just yet. Jesus, I just realized Bogdanovic is still their third option.

I just can't get over how fucking terrible the Garnett/Pierce trade ended up being. As if sending over the 3rd overall pick last year wasn't bad enough, they're about to potentially send the top pick in the draft over this summer and fall all the way back into the mid-20's.

And the real cherry on top is their 2018 first round pick was also included in the deal, which means they're most likely going to send over another top pick after forcing their fans to slog through another throwaway season with no reward waiting at the end of it.

All in all, probably the worst trade I've seen in my lifetime of following professional sports.

The Stepien rule needs amended. Rights to swap picks a year after trading a first round pick is a BS way around it. The Celtics knew damn well they'd get 3 straight Nets picks and were probably thinking it was a dream that anyone was incompetent enough to make that deal

like you said the fans are suffering most from this. Protect them from this gross incompetence. Could you imagine being a Nets fan? You literally have nothing to look forward to. It's just a desolate wasteland with no draft pick light at the end of the tunnel.

I still think the trade should have been nixed. The youngest player going to the Nets at the time was 36... I mean come on what the fuck did they expect to happen.

How depressing must that thread be... :conf (11):

What's even more fucked up is people could see this coming before the trade was officially announced. It was blatantly obvious that KG and Pierce were basically finished, and adding them wasn't going to get them past Miami.
