Is anyone else worried about the team beyond what will be a really hard-to-stomach offseason?
The Indians’ lease to play baseball at Progressive Field expires in 2023. There's no guarantee yet that fans will be permitted in 2021, at least early on, and if they are it will be a fraction of normal capacity. They're claiming to be hit hard by COVID-19 wiping out a normal 2020 revenue. They've had serious attendance issues and are now going to be trying to sell tickets after trading Lindor, maybe Carrasco, and letting Santana and likely Hernandez walk. They've been cutting $ since John Sherman left for KC. Minnesota and Chicago have likely passed them up and Detroit could before long. And, to top it off, they're considering changing the popular name of the team (which I support, but I know it isn't a popular move).
Simply put, it's a pretty awful situation right now.
With an impressive group looming in Nashville, should we be worried about not having the team in 2024?
