The Kings have reached an agreement in principle to send veteran guard Mike Bibby to the Atlanta Hawks for guards Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue and forwards Lorenzen Wright and Shelden Williams, sources told The Bee on Saturday.

The garbage players going to the Kings:

Anthony Johnson - final year - $2,860,000
Tyronn Lue - final year - $3,500,000
Lorenzen Wright - final year - $3,240,000

That's $9.6 million coming off the books after this year. The most the Cavs can offer is $5.6 million (Ira Newble and both Shannon and Devin Brown).

This trade basically comes down to Shelden Williams for Mike Bibby. Terrible trade for the Kings.
Last summer they could have gotten Gooden along with expiring or cheaper contracts. Despite Gooden's problems he's a far far better player than S. Williams.

I guess this does give us fans hope that starting this summer the Cavs expiring contracts can be turnd into a quality addition(s).

We didn't get Childress in the deal. :confused:

I haven't checked on their contracts yet, but we definitely hoped Petrie would get his hands on someone for up front. I like Wright and agree with you that Williams could be effective. Theus has done wonders with the staff this year, I trust him to do whatever it takes. Lue has some experience. Don't know much about Johnson.

Being able to dump one players huge contract, specifically Bibby's (16 next year, 18 the next) and turn them into four might work in our favor to get an Artest deal done. Otherwise we must waive two players.

this deal gets sactown exactly what they needed. they get 9 million in expiring cash and they get a pf to put in the rotation. yeah drew is better then shelden, but honestly he's not so much better then what they have (moore, sar, thomas) that the extra expiring they could reap from atlanta didn't make it worth it. sucks for us, but good for sactown and good for atlanta. seems like a good compromise, something we couldn't reach

The hawks could provide more salary relief and in the end, thats what matters for a lot of teams. Our time will come starting this summer, nobody has better assets to get better than us.

I know people are looking to put a band aid over our current team but I like our long term look at things.

Ferry has done a great job in structuring his contracts to hit a home run next season.

This Bibby trade and the Gasol trade give me extreme confidence that we will be able to turn Snow/Gooden/Marshall/Damon's combined 24.8M in expiring contracts into strong talent.

Such is the nature of the NBA beast at this point.
