The Joe Thomas Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
German beers are my favorite personally and its not even close for me.

What is your favorite beers? I will say the craft beer market here in US is amazing, but i find IPA's to be vastly over rated.
My favorite beer is one I've never had before.

I drink everything, but yeah--sours, stouts, IPAs are probably my top-tier triumvirate (and I understand those categories are incredibly broad).

I have over 2,000 unique beers rated on untappd. 10 have gotten a 5.0.

8 sours, 2 stouts.

5.0 beer list (date at the end is when I drank them, not necessarily the year the beer was made):
  • Allagash Avance (2017)
  • Hill Farmstead Florence (2017)
  • Strange Roots (used to be Drai Laag) Razmata (2017)
  • Modern Times Creature Times (a sour beer styled after tacos al pastor) 2017
  • Wolf's Ridge Apple Brandy Salted Chocolate Dire Wolf (2018)
  • Bellwoods Jelly King (Pink Guava) 2018
  • Hill Farmstead Clara (2019)
  • Crooked Stave L'Brett D'Or (2019)
  • Finback Running Off: Gold (2021)
  • Tres Fointeinen SvhL XIV.iii Langste Nacht 2019 (2023)
9 Americans, one Belgian.

I hate sours personally, I love stouts, my favorite beer is a Dunkel, i tend to like dark ales more than any other type, but a good stout, porter, amber, ect. An IPA can be good, but usually not good enough to keep me away from other styles of beers

I actually like a good barley wine too, issue is i like drinking at breweries, and there are over 40 tap rooms in phoenix area, and i prefer not to have to uber home, lol

I usually have 3 beers and go home, but barley wines would prevent me from driving.

Next time I'm in PHX, beers at Arizona Wilderness are on me.

Went to the Browns game in PHX a few years ago (the one where @Triplethreat organized an RCF meetup then ghosted) and got to try Wren House while there. They had great barleywine and wheatwine while I was there

Next time in Phoenix we should hit several breweries. Best thing about breweries are you can both get the beers you like.

I am serious about this, i have met 4 on here so far. Hit me up on private chat and we will connect.

Wren House is the #1 rated one out here. I have been many times. Not my favorite, the remind me of that South Park Episode on electric cars where they smell their own farts, lol.

But they do have good beers.

Is it time to revive the beer snobs thread?! Always down to talk craft brews!

Gotta catch up to me - closing in on 3k unique. However I'm in alignment with basically everything you said here. Surprising to not see a Cantillon sour in your top 10. I'd probably have Fou Foune and Vigneronne up there.

I gave Fou Foune a 4.75. Cantillon Gueuze 100% Lambic Bio a 4.5. Saint Lamvinus a 4.25.

Although I will say, the presentation with the little wicker basket is hard to beat--especially on a nice summer evening in Switzerland.

I do love BFM's Abbey du Saint Bon Chien... a nice Swiss sour brewery that I'd recommend. But there's something about that style of sour where I can't drink a large quantity of it.

I joined in 2017. Hit 1K beers in my first two years, but then COVID hit, and kids started popping out, so I've slowed significantly.

My brother has over 3,200 right now, but he had to switch to gluten free a year ago, so that number is one I'll eventually catch.

Yeah I slowed down with COVID as well. My brother is my inspiration. 18,655 unique check-ins. And I can assure you, that is a legitimate number (there are a number of fakes with Untappd surprisingly).

I have yet to make it to Europe at all, but Belgium and Switzerland are on the list. However happy to live in an age where great beer can be found in many places. Hell Jackie O's is probably still my favorite overall and they're right here in OH.

Also uh... Joe Thomas is goat. (Apologies for extending the off topic discussion).

Sounds like I'll be saying hi to your brother in a couple weeks down at Snallygaster!

I like beer a lot. I have at least 4 unique check-ins.
All IPA's. I like beers I can easily buy at Marc's, like Columbus Bode.

I'm a total snob!

Wait, is this the beer snob thread? How do I delete this?
