The Joe Thomas Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Browns failed Joe Thomas year after year, and the guy simply didn’t care because of how much he loved the team and the city.

He’ll never have to buy a drink again in this town. Browns have the best RB and best LT in the history of football. Not too shabby.

Thanks Joe. Going to be weird not seeing that #73 lining up this year.

God damnit. Not even going to lie, I teared up a bit

Joe was my favorite player. Always has been and honestly probably always will be. I played left tackle in high school and wore #73. I watched so much film of Joe Thomas trying to model my game after his. It was a tall task lol. In his 11 year career I genuinely think Joe had less than what could be considered 5 bad games. And that’s by HIS standards. Just such an amazing player to watch. He was an absolute technician, the best of which I’ve ever seen. But he combined that with being an amazing athlete. Joe Thomas could have been a perennial top 10 tackle just based on strength and athleticism. When you combine that with how he was the most fundamentally sound lineman I have ever seen, it makes the best offensive tackle in the league 11 years running. Fuck a Ryan Clady that was always such a joke of a “competition”

I still remember I got into football late and the 2007 draft was the first one I watched. I remember I was young and stupid and my uncle is a huge Notre Dame fan so I wanted Quinn at 3. And I remember when we picked Thomas i didn’t know who the hell he was and my uncle just said that was the right pick. He’s going to be a hall of famer one day

The next year was the first year that I really couldn’t get enough Browns football. It was the 10-6 year where that little pussy Manning couldn’t be bothered to play in the last week of the season so we got FUCKED out of the playoffs.

I remember Joe being the only other player besides Peterson to get ROY votes (and I remember being mad Joe lost lol). I remember the hard years that followed and always thinking how sweet it will be when Joe got to play in a playoff game

And God fucking Damnit does it bother me and probably always will that such a remarkable player and person never got that opportunity

Thanks for everything Joe. And I truly mean that

Dont keep us in suspense, how did it turn out? Are you as good as Joe Thomas?

If you listen to the podcast the knee issues were the number one factor. His body was starting to break down, and he was ready to move on mentally. He made the right choice for himself and his family.

I don't think JT was the best left tackle of all time- I'd put Munoz and Larry Allen ahead of him- but he was just so unbelievably consistent. Didn't matter if he was hurt, how bad the team was, how chaotic things were in the organization- all JT did was play superb football, play after play, game after game, week after week, year after year. See you in Canton, big man.

Larry Allen?

Sad to see us on the cusp of turning it around for Joe to be walking away.

Obviously we are all sad, but no one can knock Joe for looking out for himself for a change and be able to do it on his terms.

For me, Joe was right up there with Anthony Munoz and Orlando Pace as the best tackles I’ve ever seen.

But they all did it differently. I don’t want to pick. Joe didn’t have quite the physical gifts of the other two, but he did it by being a master technician.

It’s sad to see him go before we could get him a playoff game. I might lose it during his presser depending how emotional he gets.

Larry Allen?

i've always been mesmerized by what an athletic freak of nature Larry Allen was. And he is in the HOF. YMMV.

I'm probably selling JT short as a pure athlete. For me it's all about his durability and what a gifted technician he was.

He's Cleveland. We may not have the "best of" many things, but we will damn sure outwork anyone around us; and despite everything going to hell...we are going to continue to bust our ass to do our job.
