He's gonna have a huge year. He's one of the biggest reasons that the Raptors will be the third best team in the East this year.

:D

I saw flashes from him in the playoffs where he changed the complexion of games against Brooklyn.

What he needs to work on most this summer is patience with his back to basket and asserting himself once he gets a guy on his back.

He was *willing* to take faceup jumpers and as he sees more success with that, he will be even more dangerous on that end.

Getting work in Hakeem, he will only get better at what his most glaring weaknesses are on offense. Kid would be exactly what we need right now :(

Not to beat a dead horse..but I can't help myself here.

I live 10-15 minutes from Kawhi Leonard's H.S. but still conceded back in 2011 that Jonas was the right pick due to his position. Was pissed for 3 years over Grant selecting TT with that 4th pick which made it difficult to watch Toronto games let alone watch TT constantly getting blocked at the rim. Finally have moved on and have a different perspective since July 11. I now chalk up that TT pick to the cost of bringing LeBron back home. With the addition of Love, TT actually will have a defined role as the 3rd big which should actually suit him. It will be nice to watch some Toronto games without constantly having to think "what if" every time Jonas makes a good play.

I agree that with an improved back to the basket game and a little more assertiveness JV will likely be a future all star.

I'm rather surprised by how much smoother his moves have become after working out with Hakeem.

JV's last 5 games (all wins):

27.0 mpg (24.5 on the season)
16.0 ppg (12.3)
9.4 rpg (8.1)
1.4 bpg (1.3)

FGs: 74% (31/42)
FTs: 82% (18/22)

TS%: 77.4%

--------------------------

So far sporting a 22.59 PER for the season.

Some random rankings among starting C's per basketball-reference based on season averages:

PER 3rd
TS% 3rd
BLK% 9th
WS/48 1st
TRB% 9th
PPG/36 8th

Defensively, he still has a long way to go like most young big men, but I feel like he's on a nice path going forward.

I don't believe Jonas is a top 20 C. Not sure Varejao is and he's probably better

Jonas is poor defensively and doesn't space the floor which limits his impact. As for his efficiency it started out sky high but has been dropping last 5 games or so

People overestimate what a defensive prospect he is. Yes he has long arms but doesn't have more than average athleticism and most importantly, is a low IQ player. So being a defensive anchor is far from guaranteed. Casey benches him in the 4th to put out better defensive lineups

Amir Johnson is clearly the better player.:chuckle:

I do not understand why do you say that people overestimate his defense. Most of people ARE well aware of his poor defense. Nobody has ever said he will be a defensive anchor. JV is not top 20, but he is so young. He improved his defense this year. He is slow in the head, but with experience he will have less to think and act more on instincts. If only he could have a better stamina, so he does not get gassed out so quickly. I think most of his struggles come because of poor stamina and slow thinking, wich is fixable.

Yes, he had a few terrible games, such a bust.

Tristan did not make the top 25 list.

17. Jonas Valanciunas | Projected 3-year WARP: 6.8

Pelton: Valanciunas has raised his PER from 16.1 in 2013-14 to 19.6 this season thanks to improving his free throw rate and a bounce back in his block rate. Expect his usage rate to increase as Valanciunas reaches his prime.
Thorpe: Every season has seen incremental growth from Valanciunas, now a legitimate force inside for a very good team. He has to be accounted for on each end and still is growing as an offensive force. Has a good chance to become an 18-point, 10-rebound player.
Elhassan: Excellent pick-and-roll threat, strong rebounder and improving defender. He's the perfect fit for what the Raptors want to do on both sides of the court.

Tristan's PER off the bench is 17. V is good, but I don't know, he didn't win the game for them last night and became a non-factor at the end. Tristan gives you more when he is not the focus. I see why people want V, but Tristan is looking more and more like he has not come anywhere near his ceiling. Before, I could not see him reaching his ceiling, but with the vets we have now?
