Stefanski outcoached DeMeco Ryans by a country mile in their head to head matchup with backup QBs, then turned around and beat the Jets on a short week with a decimated roster. Lock it up, Kevski!

You know you want to beat the Bengals so that KEVSKI has done it with 5 QBs.

There is said the quiet part out loud.

I love that he’s using play action. But why didn’t he use it this much with baker and Watson? Especially when we had Chubb.

In 2020 and 2021, with Baker Mayfield at quarterback, Cleveland ran the 10th most play-action passing plays in the NFL. The scheme helped bring them to the playoffs during Stefanski’s first year as a head coach.

TLDR: Mayfield success was with PA in Cleveland...

Even 10th didn’t seem to be enough. It was so effective. We should have been in the top 5.

If they did it more, we'd still be stuck with the rollercoaster that is Baker Mayfield.

Baker was best in PA roll outs. Defenses eventually began to shut it down by playing contain on the edges.

Pure PA in the pocket was not as successful because he (and Watson at times) seem to struggle stepping up into the pocket, seeing the field, and throwing with decisiveness. Baker would start the happy feet and pump faking. Watson will drop his eyes and look to scramble.

Flacco is big, decisive, and not allergic to throwing the ball away or taking a 2 yard checkdown if he doesn't like what he sees. He can run pure PA, step up in the pocket, and deliver.

It's a game of chess and when a team starts taking something away you get a better view of how a QB can adjust. Wanna put 8 in the box, slow down the run, and dare the QB to beat you? Stefanski will spread you out and slice you up... IF he has a QB that can do it. Baker wasn't that guy.

Watson is a more interesting case because I've seen him slice up defenses and have high completion percentage, high passer rating games. He's also a legitimate threat with his legs. We'll see what we can get out of him next year.
