Release delayed until May 2020.
Not sure why they don't just wait and release on PS5 at this point.
I'd rather have a great game later than a half-finished one now, personally. Delays suck, but Naughty Dog has a reputation for quality and I'm sure if they delayed it it's for good reason.
Spring next year seems like a great time for games. FF7 remake in March if you like that sort of thing and Cyberpunk 2077 in April. I might end up passing on TLOU2 at least for a little bit because so many good games coming out so close together.
I played the original, but don't own a Playstation anymore so I watched the gameplay "movie" on Youtube to see the story and I really liked it. Boy, was I really surprised at the vitriol being spewed online about it. I guess people were upsetI don't know, I thought it told a really compelling story. They hit you over the head with the general theme (vengeance = bad), but there were plenty of powerful story beats. Also, I kind of liked Abby? Andthat Joel was killed in the beginning of the game? Or perhaps where they took Elle's storyline?kind of hated Ellie by the end?
So I'm in the same boat as you - played the first one (one of my favorite story games ever) and didn't play the second, but watched a gameplay movie.
Here's my reasoning behind the vitriol (I agree with it too for the most part):
Joel dying in a stupid way pissed a lot of people off, me included. I love shows and games where nobody is off limits to die (see: Walking Dead, seasons 1-6 of Game of Thrones, etc.). The issue here was is that Joel is a very intelligent guy and he should have known that he probably wasn't very popular given the events of the first game. But here he is, spewing his name around to the crew that ended up killing him. Convenient too that they were on the side of the people that Joel took on in the first game.
I felt like they killed Joel off just so he'd be out of the way for the rest of the story, and they dumbed down his intelligence way too much to do so.
Then you play the next however many hours as the character that just killed fan-favorite Joel off, and they tried to make you sympathize with her. Are there two sides to every story? Sure, but you just butchered a main character. It would've been like if Euron Greyjoy randomly showed up at the end of S6 of Game of Thrones and killed Jon Snow and Tyrion, and then we spent the next half season dedicated to him. It just didn't work IMO.
You doing PlayStation or PC? I’m intrigued to see how it runs on PC.Looks the same to me.
I’ll play it, despite this not being necessary.
PS5 for sure. I get most stuff on console these days despite being all PC in my younger years. Still run a nice rig for the occasional game that can only be played there (WHTW, for example). You doing PlayStation or PC? I’m intrigued to see how it runs on PC.
