maybe I'll upload some footage of last night's game with Dwight hitting the two jumpers, some hooks, and the reverse layup...

More importantly, Hakeem still looks great.

From watching that video, Dwight Howard is still in the "Hakeem Elementary School", and he looked like Big Z on the only semi-advanced move Hakeem showed him which was at the 7 minute mark.

Hopefully there was a lot more to the workouts than one day or that video or there really is no hope in the East of beating Miami.

Dwight Actually looked pretty good in that video, i know you can't put to much into those training camp videos since they only show the shots that go in, but if he finally gets a solid offensive low post game, he is going to be an even bigger nightmare than before.

You have a point but considering what he was able to do with virtually no post moves, these couple moves may take him to the next level. He was hard to single cover as it was.

Dwight Howard's problem is actually understanding what Hakeem is saying...

Kind of weird to think about Dwight as an ally and our main hope of derailing the Heat compared to last year

Dwight is spending his time wisely. I wonder how much 3 days with Hakeem would run ya?

Anyways those were very important technical moves for Dwight to add to his game. If he even picks up one of them he just took his game up a huge notch. Hakeem didn't over power his opponents, he used agility and speed, something Dwight could really use and I believe he's capable of.

Master Splinter wasn't a turtle.. get it right Dwight. :D

Hakeem's footwork... wow, even now, it's better than almost every player in the league.

Hickson needs to work out with Hakeem for a full summer. JJ, imo, has great quickness for a 4 and if Hakeem can teach him some of his post moves, it will take JJ from a 3rd option type player throughout his career to a legit all star 2nd option. I think it would be a lot better if we offer Hakeem a job like the Lakers did Kareem. I would be stoked if that happened.

God... it was just practicing and all but 'The Dream' is so fluid. Orlando needs to hire him as a consultant for as long as it takes, getting Howard a game even a shadow as good as Hakeem offensively would make the Magic so tough.

Doesn't quite work like that. In the NBA the moves Hakeem was showing Howard are things that get shut off immediately.

The key to any successful post player is his ability to counter after getting shut off, which was what Hakeem was moving towards with the last move at the 7:00 mark. (which is where Dwight started looking a bit lost)

Hakeem didn't help make Kobe such a force on the block by teaching him a drop-step or a weakside pivot, he taught him the dream shake or at least a version of it that Kobe uses that I like to call the "Shimmy"(not to be confused with the basic shimmy shake that perimeter players do off the dribble) which is basically a modified dreamshake with a different finish. You get to the point where you start freezing defenders for a second, and all you need is one second to get the shot you need.

Like I said, Dwight's still in elementary school. Now, to be successful, you don't need a P.h.D like Hakeem or McHale or even a masters degree like Duncan ...hell, Shaq dropped out in the 10th grade, but he advanced enough to the point where it works. Dwight is still pretty far away from that, but he has every opportunity at still such a young age to get there.

Good information but where did I come off rails? I don't see it.

I said if Dwight picks up anything it would be a plus and by all means, it would be. He relies and body tussling to over power his opponent where if he wanted to step his game up, would be best for him to learn what Hakeem has shown. Dwight can use his strength and focus it on speed and timing which would significantly change the way he is guarded.

There's a part where Hakeem shows him where to look to throw off a defenders perception of where he may go with the ball which essentially tricks the human instinct and gives you that split second advantage. Nothing new there like you said but having watched Dwight quite a bit its these small technicalities that would make a world of difference in his game. It takes discipline and effort because most of what he is showing is not naturally how we would go about posting someone up and certainly not Dwight.

Hakkem a P.h.D and Duncan a masters? We won't go there this time.. :chuckles:

I'm just saying that Dwight Howard learning the little drop step towards the hoop directly after receiving the pass will get shut off in the league and won't change anything about his game. Being able to turn the other way after the drop step and hit the hook or a fade-away jumper or being able to spin to the middle of the lane off of it for an easy look is what Dwight needs to consistently be able to do to truly have an improved post game.

That may be true, but he is certainly setting up the foundation to further Dwights game.

Although a huge difference in Dwights current drop step to the one Hakeem was showing him is the body tussling before hand. The only time he would touch the defender is on the initial post up which is followed by correct timing and footwork. This could puzzle a defender as now Dwight can literally pick and choose when he wants to body up or simply turn and pull up depending on how he's being played.

Little things like that can take you to the next level. Worry about Dream Shaken people later...
