Where was the outcry about the former Secretary of State confirming the existence of that covert program?? Why is it only an issue now, when everyone has known about it for years?

It was another hatchet job on Trump. The WaPo knew it was garbage to describe it as Trump "blowing the lid" off a covert program. Weasel-words and qualifications deeper in the article don't undo the deliberate impact of the headline and first sentence.

The WaPo is garbage.

As for this point, again the Post was not being critical of Trump, merely stating he ended the program and made a formal acknowledgement of it. OTHER sources raised the outcries. But, I guess that is the Post's fault.

That's crap. Here's the first freaking sentence of that article after the headline:

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump seemed to blow the lid on the cancellation of a covert CIA program in Syria when he tweeted about it this week. But, intelligence agencies still won’t talk about it.

That's misleading and biased as hell. And when that's your headline and lead sentence, it isn't an accident that it the angle picked up by other media sources. You draft your headline and lead sentence to set the tone of the piece - they're the most important part when it comes to create a mindset in readers.

This has been more than an open secret talked about only in the press. It was talked about in Presidential Debates, and nobody claimed it was secret then. So why now? Here's Hillary in the December 2015 primary debate:

Clinton had faced that sort of questioning before, in September, on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” when John Dickerson led her into a swamp of platitudes. When he brought up “arming the Syrian rebels” and asked if “this a bad idea … or was this a good idea, poorly executed?,” the former Secretary of State sounded somewhat passive: “I did recommend that, at the beginning of this conflict, we do more to help train those who were in the forefront of leading the opposition against Assad”—Bashar al-Assad, the President of Syria—“looking to try to bring the moderates together.” She continued, “A lot of these rebels, originally, they were—they were businesspeople, they were professional people, they were students. They had no training in going up against the Syrian army, which Assad clearly was going to use to the ultimate effect.” Eventually, she said that “A lot of what I worried about has happened…. So where we are today is not where we were. And where we are today is that we have a failed program.”

The WaPo is garbage.

The words you highlighted do not say that Trump exposed the existence of the program.

The words say that his tweet exposed the cancellation of the program in the context of the cancellation of the US policy of arming anti-Assad rebels aligning favorably with Russian pro-Assad policy in Syria.

Understood in this context, the points made in the remainder of your post are completely non-germane to the point of the article.

The entire issue with covert programs is acknowledging that they existed at all. A "cancellation" is an acknowledgment that it existed in the first place.

Which everyone ready knew and admitted anyway.

Apparently the Boy Scouts, just like the majority of white women, are racist, deplorable, stupid, sexist, etc.
Gotta be a weird world some of you live in...where your dug-in partisan politics forces you to see women as sexist and young people as Hitler Youth.

Well, they're quickly backing away from whatever the fuck Trump was babbling on about the other night.

I didn't think Youngstown could get any shittier before today.

Fuck, that sucked so bad.

My Facebook timeline was a goddamn nightmare last night.

“Don’t sell your house” because “we’re going to fill those factories back up,” and if not, the mills will be torn down and new ones will be built.

Democrats: "Love and acceptance! Tolerance! Why can't Republicans respect people for who they are?"

::Trump Rally::

Democrats: "This place is even shittier than I thought because those people are taking pride in who they are and fighting to have their voices heard."

Democrats: Stop trying to rebuild factories that have been dormant for years and aren't coming back. You're being ridiculous and Trump is a fraud.

Saying we're attacking people of Youngstown for being who they are is fucking nonsense.

The President literally just attacked transgender people for being who they are. Wake the fuck up.

Just when you thought we couldn't be more embarrassed as a nation....Donald Trump takes to Twitter again.

Maybe it's best to just wait it out and not get upset....in 30 short years, the silent generation will be deceased, the country will no longer have a white absolute majority, most every family will have an out of the closet family member, the millennial generation will be in charge, and America can finally reach her destiny. It's just too bad we have to live through the nations worst President.

You say that you hate Trump in part because of his racism, but your posts indicate that you're quite racist yourself.

So instead of replying to anyone that actually discussed the Jamboree speech you're just gonna pop in here to knock down a straw-man for us?

Directly addressing what you said:

1) Trump is deplorable. There is a large portion of his base that is absolutely deplorable as well. A lot of his voters I feel were either naive, convinced (wrongly IMO) that Hillary was somehow worse, or focused so much on particular issues that they weren't bothered by his racism, sexism, etc. Many people saw the Supreme Court or the economy or something as so important that they needed to be partisan rather than face the truth that they voted for a buffoon who lacks basic comprehension of national or global issues. But I know plenty of liberals that paint with a more broad brush.

2) The Boy Scouts were created in Britain essentially as a youth training for the military, but became a much more independent and well-rounded program. It promotes religiousness and outdoorsmanship (apparently not a word?), so it draws conservative families at a much higher rate than liberal ones. I know because as I stated earlier, I'm an Eagle Scout and I had plenty of political debates, especially regarding the gay issue since that was the headline grabber. So even before I watched any portions of the speech I knew that Trump would be getting plenty of support from the crowd. But so what? The reason people compared it to a Hitler Youth rally is because-

a) it's an easy joke
b) comparing the Scouts to Hitler Youth is nothing new
c) Trump went very political in what should have been an apolitical environment like the embarrassment he is
d) That inherent foundation of support meant that his political rally talk went over well, giving off creepy vibes if I'm being honest

As an additional note, I find it repulsive that he would push his "America First" shit on these kids, telling them that Boy Scouts are America-first. Again, the program started in Britain and currently has orgs in more than a hundred countries (if I remember correctly). EVERY BSA uniform, whether that's Cubs or Boy Scouts or Venturers, has a world Scouting emblem as a symbol of brotherhood to these international programs. Earning your Eagle requires 21 Merit Badges including Citizenship in the Nation and Citizenship in the World. Scouting does preach patriotism and Duty to Country, but that doesn't mean at the expense of the rest of the planet (BTW environmental stewardship is a major tenet of the program that Trump also fails at along with being a morally reprehensible piece of shit). The Scout Oath says to "help other people at all times." ... "AT ALL TIMES."

I don't blame the national council for the Trump incident. They've invited every sitting President for 100 years to speak at Jambo. It would have been a much larger political statement to have not invited him than to let him be an inappropriate asshole and then put out their statement reassuring people that they aren't trying to be political. And this is coming from someone who loathes a lot of the decisions they've made nationally (such as their ongoing religious discrimination against agnostic/atheist Scouts). I'm sure plenty of people on that level didn't even take issue with his speech and were excited to get a Republican to speak to all these Scouts, but the fact is I don't really think they did anything wrong.

That's fair, but I'm not racist. I am just really annoyed at the racism of the Trump administration and his campaign. And yeah, it's unfortunately mostly white people in his admin, so I tend to lash out against whites our of frustration. For example, Trump and his cronies imply that immigrants are bad, yet two of his wives were immigrants, and his children are all 2nd gen children of immigrants. But, what is also implied is that European immigrants are somewhat different.

But you are right, the other day I called Jeff Sessions a cracker, and even though I am white myself, that was uncalled for and hypocritical. Thanks for pointing that out. I can do Better. We can all do Better. We deserve Better. A Better Deal.
