No, it's sad that you've gone to lengths to explain why it's offensive to "fat shame" Sam Clovis but somehow his comments equating gays to pedophiles is not.

It's also sad that many others have rushed to the defense of Nazi rights.

But I digress...
It was a true herculean effort by me.

Don't know clovis, don't know how many of the GOP held which argument but any argument I've heard is that the principle is changed to "people who love each other" and that's what was taken issue with, among the break down of the family, which I don't think has been supported by data since.

In any event, I'm sure states rights nor "people who love each other" were the best or only arguments from either side. It does t mean they weren't made.

Clovis is the Trump Admin nominee the article was about who is making the assertion about a logical association between homosexuality and pedophilia, arguing they are essentially one in the same (i.e., both are sexually deviant choices).

Personally, I don't think "people who love each other" is really relevant insomuch as marriage is a question of personal liberty. People have a right to marry. Thus, upon what basis can the government pick who can and cannot enjoy that right? Based on sexual preference? What's the compelling reason for that?

So, while I'm sure there were a myriad of arguments from the left on this topic; there really weren't a whole lot of reasonable arguments from the right, IMHO.

You just threw gasoline on the fire.

How??

Again, I have no idea what you're talking about... at all. How does my interjection here or my conversation with Dave equate to throwing gasoline on a fire?

This topic of fat people. You're the gasoline. Fat creates quite a fire. Anybody that is a veteran of the bbq knows this.

How would that not apply to pedophiles if it's about liberty? Before we explore legality, sodomy is illegal in 14 states and gay marriage wasn't recognized legally until it was.

Well, the difference here is that for a pedophile to engage in sexual pedophilia, by definition, requires a non-consenting participant; and thus, again by definition, that specific person is protected under the law.

I think this is a fundamental difference between pedophilia and any other sexual activity that we could be outlining from here on out. That is to say, actual pedophilia is more comparable to rape than it is to consensual sex.

And you make a good point about the law not equating to what is or isn't ethical, and I agree, the law is often not in congruence with ethics. So I'll point out that my initial opening here isn't entirely within the scope of ethics -- but some combination of the law and what we might generally think is or isn't ethical.

I think the ethical question here is a bit different, and we would need to talk about pedophilia in a medical / psychological sense (being attracted to prepubescent children).

One could argue there is a scale of escalating ethical immorality as one goes from ephebophilia (legal most places) to hebephilia (illegal most places) to pedophilia (illegal almost everywhere on Earth). And looking at these separately, and correlating the degree to which societies outlaw the various behaviors, I think we can draw lines in the sand with which we can argue what humans would consider moral and immoral - but of course, this would still be a morally relative space, nonetheless.

I'd cut your losses man...the gouri train is about to plow through the rotten foundations of this homosexuality -> pedophilia argument. Evacuate now before it's too late.

EDIT: It's too late.

I don't care about trying to draw any equivalents, but the push to normalize pedophilia is very alarming to me.
