The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
DA:Origins is an amazing game. The number of hidden and unmarked quests was great, and the depth of the world, lore and characters was fantastic. Absolutely loved Origins. My first playthrough was as a mage and I was not expecting that storyline. Absolutely loved it.
I played a Mage too. I think I got stuck in an impossible fight / save point, and got burnt out trying to punch past it.

Might fire it back up after Horizon Zero Dawn and then God of War which is next in my queue.

Great list...

Here's my Top 10 RPGs, as far as I can remember at the moment.. lol..

1) Xenogears (best game of any genre, IMHO)
2) Final Fantasy X
3) Phantasy Star 4
4) Final Fantasy VII
5) Fallout: New Vegas
6) Dragon Age: Origins
7) Knights of the Old Republic
8) Fallout 3
9) Planescape: Torment
10) Persona 5

BTW, I'm a huge Civ5 fan (and formerly a pretty competitive player FWIW)... Oblivion would've made my list, but, if you look at the games above almost all of them are heavily story-driven (except FO3). To me, that's what makes the game worth playing.

Man I really need to go back and play Xenogears. Still haven't played Persona series either.

Not sure how Chrono Trigger didn't make my list, but it should have.

Origins was incredible, and one of BioWare’s absolute greatest achievements.

Sadly, they’ve not been able to replicate the magic of the first in the two games since (although I will submit that Inquisition was a solid game, just not as good as Origins).

You’re doing yourself a disservice by not playing God of War now, and this is coming from someone who has sunk probably 85+ hours into Horizon.

I thought the second game was fine for what it was, but it was clearly not finished, as EA rushed it out the door to make the deadline instead of delaying it.

But anyway, BioWare was more or less done the moment EA acquired them. It's been a slow downward spiral since. Pretty sure most of the people that made their previous games great have left for greener pastures by now.

Yeah, EA is clearly what did them in. I loved the original Mass Effect trilogy (despite their involvement and the obvious shift in the series once they took over), but Andromeda was a colossal disappointment.

Dragon Age 2 just didn't have near the depth nor the magic of the first one. As you said, it felt rushed, and it felt like more emphasis was put on changing the combat system than just continuing on with all the things that made the first one great.

EA is an absolute cancer on the gaming world, putting the bottom line over a quality product. They've done it for years and years.

Off topic, but Jade Empire was another fantastic game from BioWare that came out during their golden age. I had countless playthroughs on the original XBox.

Man, I loved Knights of the Old Republic so much.

I gotta give Dragon Age another shot I think. I got burnt out.

KOTOR was fantastic. Near my top 10.

Only Dragon Age I have is Inquisition, which seems good, but I'm only like 10 hours in. :chuckle: And then I dropped it for Witcher 3. Might pick it back up soon but just sooo many games.

I'm in Horizon right now. Great game, story is good, gameplay even better.

It's basically impossible to go back to playing Fetch Quest: The Game after playing Witcher 3.

Horizon is really starting to get good. I’m only level 16 but moving at a pretty brisk pace since I want to beat the game soon to address the rest of my back log, but the game keeps throwing new things to do at me. I am by no means a completionist, but when I put a game down I wanted to be satisfied, and with big games like this I just wouldnt be after bum rushing the main story in 20 hours.

Depending on how it continues to hold my attention, and if I want to do the DLC, we’ll see if it comes to that.

Game is super fun though. Love the weapon/ammo varieties even though I kinda had to research what everything means and its function. Some of the robo dinos are really impressive to behold and a thrill to fight.

Only complaint for me is fighting humans is kinda lame. Not terrible, but nowhere near as exciting as the robots.

Replaying the first two Banner Saga games right now. Well, replaying the first one right now with the second to follow, but you get the idea. Just wanted a refresher, because while I remember the basic gist of the games, a lot of the little details and side characters have been lost from my memory.

Such fantastic games, and the possibility of permadeath for characters really makes you consider every decision carefully. It's been a long time since I played, so I don't remember most of the options that lead to good or bad outcomes, which means it's almost like playing the game fresh again.

I think my PS4 is finally starting to die out on me after being on for pretty much the last five or so years straight. I have an original model from release night and it's starting to run hot and get a little slow in some areas. Even getting a few frame skips here and there now.

I'd assume time isn't going to make it better, but I also don't want to go shell out money for a PS4 Pro if the PS5 is going to release sometime next year, because I will get that pretty much immediately.

Advice?

I wish I knew how / had the time to get into WoW. My timeline is flooded with people playing the new expansion.

I've tried once or twice to get into it, but I dunno. It just feels daunting to start from scratch this late in the game.

I tried it years back and found it boring as hell. It's just way too much grinding. I think MMOs just aren't for me.

Incidentally, that's probably also why I hated Dragon Age: Inquisition. It felt like a single-player MMO.

I signed up for EA's new Origin Access Premier, which gives you access to all of their new games plus a back catalog of 100+ titles. It's actually not a bad deal if you plan to buy two games from them over the next year. A hundred bucks for a full year and it includes the new Madden, Battlefield V, and I believe Anthem as well. Not all that interested in Anthem, but I'll play it if it's free I suppose.

I downloaded Andromeda last night and played the first hour or so. It felt a little underwhelming. Visually it didn't feel like a modern AAA game, and the story has thus far not really gripped me. There's a part early on where you crash land on an alien planet and stand up, looking out over a cliff where tons of giant rocks are floating in the air all around you in the distance. I wish someone had put the line "I've made a huge mistake" there. :chuckle:

New Madden is fun thus far too. Mostly been dicking around with ultimate team, and since Premier gives you the Hall of Fame version, I started out with a pretty good team. Got a Dan Marino card, a David Johnson card, and the Antonio Brown card that comes from him being the cover guy, so my team is pretty stacked. I love the new solo challenges. Gives you much more reason to play if you're not really interested in playing the game online at this point (which I'm not, since I know I'd get crushed by people who have played every Madden for years).

Figure I might as well check out Battlefront II and Mirror's Edge: Catalyst too since they're included.

You have me on Bnet, so feel free to hit me up! They've really streamlined it, and when you first start, you get a boost to immediately dive in to the new content. This expansion is fantastic.
