i also have a question...if the knicks hand over the big contract of penny hardaway, why is that enticing for orlando...i am very confused with all the salary stuff that goes on and i cant get my head around it...its it such a problem for NY then why do ORL want the contract? is it because it is expiring and they have no plan to keep penny????? cheers in advance

The Knicks are almost certain to get rid of Marbury now, well... thats what I think.

There is no way that they can have both those guys playing together on the same team. It isn't going to work, AT ALL.

But I bet you the Magic fans are glad to have Anfernee Hardaway back. :chuckles:

The Magic take on Pennys contract because it expires at the end of the year. Then Grant Hills expires after next season so they are going to have A TON of money to go after the likes of Vince Carter, who is from Florida, Paul Peirce, C Billups and others.

Add to it, they got some pretty good young players in Howard, Ariza, Nelson (Whom I dont like at all), so they are getting in pretty good shape here to have a really strong team when Howard should be just starting to hit his real talent.

If they can make the right moves in free agency, Orlando is going to be a really good team in a couple of years.

Great trade for Orlando..but as for New York, how Isiah Thomas has a job blows my mind. He just makes dumb trade after dumb trade. How many scoring PGs does this guy want?

What happened to Crawford,Taylor,Ariza for Francis & Garrity!!! I dont like this deal for Penny. I would have really preferred Crawford.

Wow, the Knicks really could of used that Penny contract in heavy negotiations today. There are some big players that were rumored to be apart of a trade with that expiring contract alone.. i.e. Kenyon Martin, Garnett. It would of made sense to trade Crawford instead of Penny to at least try to make a trade with that contract. If the Magic do things right they could have a good team to build around Howard in the next couple of years.. The thing is they always seem to do the wrong thing. Even little things like trading Andy V and Gooden to us for Battie..

And you never know about Hill, hes basically a retirement waiting to happen. But yeah, the Magic are going to have a good pick this year, going to have enough space to sign a major FA this year and then a bunch of space again next year. They will have at that time a bunch of young talent too. Francis wasn't doing much for them now.

Isiah Thomas on the other hand blows my mind. Is Steve Francis a "Larry Brown" type of PG? Nope. But he is a Isiah type of PG, hes going to make about 16 mill for the next 4 years. Since there are no other Isiahs in the league, hes going to be stuck with that contract which means New York isn't going to have any cap space whatsoever for the next 4 years. I don't think Lebron is going to jump ship and sign up to play under Larry Brown for the MLE...

The Magic fan did bring up a good point. It turned out that the Magic basically traded Tracy McGrady for nothing. All they have to show for him is Darko, Arroyo and Ariza. When you trade a top talent like McGrady you have to do better than what they eventually ended up with.

The cap space might work out for them but there have been many times where teams get tons of capspace and then have trouble finding quality players to spend it on that will come play for them.

Isiah has to be the only one who thinks Francis is going to work out well for the Knicks.

What that Magic fan fails to tell you is that TMac was gone...he wasn't going to stay in Orlando and every team in the L knew that, so they were lucky they got what they got out of Houston.

It's not like they held the cards with TMac, it was much like the LA situation with Shaq. He was gone and it was just about finding a suiter that could match contracts.

The Magic are in much better shape now than what they were in with Tmac. Now, they can do what they tried with G Hill and TMac and thats go out and get two max players if they like.
