Trade Ideas 23-24

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’ve thought about the Vuc angle in the offseason. The main hesitation I’d have with him is he’s making $20M next year and he can’t play with Allen so it kind of limits his usefulness. I’m not against paying a 3rd big that kind of money, but it needs to be someone that can play with both Mobley and Allen.
Hear me out. Naz reid

I actually do believe he can play with either Ja or Evan mainly because they're both more mobile bigs whereas Vuc is less mobile but has the best shot of the three of them. I also think he can deal slightly better with the heavier bigs.

But if Evan is truly adding that jumper, it makes him and JA the best big combo in the league because they can both switch on pretty much any player (except the speediest of guards, but no big can do that).

I would actually throw Bobby Portis out there as a guy to watch this summer. Depending on how the Bucks finish out the rest of the year just about anything could happen with them.

That is an intriguing name. He is on a fantastic contract and brings a lot fo what we need out of the 4/5 spot.

If we’re throwing out names of guys we can’t acquire, then yes.

yes, I agree

What can we get back from the Knicks/Nets for Mitchell?

Would much prefer the nets trade. Can you do better? obviously 2-3 FRP from both too.

Yeah you can do better. It’s called not trading Mitchell. If he refuses to sign then we have no choice, but the guy has easily proven he’s a top 10 player the past two years and has given no indication he doesn’t like Cleveland.

He acts like Perrion Winfrey did (social media, talking about the team/teammates/fans/Cleveland), but he's not a complete dumbass and is actually VERY good.

I just don’t see the Knicks even being interested in Mitchell at this point.

If it’s a deal with the Nets, I expect it to be built around Cam Johnson and picks.

Id honestly hang up if it isn't Mikal coming back. Id rather do Mikal and 1 pick than Cam and picks. They can keep Cam thomas

I’m inclined to feel the same way, but I don’t see how Brooklyn does that if their goal is to become a good team.

Maybe there is a scenario in which Brooklyn has another top notch player looking to join via free agency on the agreement that they to team up with Mitchell - similar to the Kawhi/George situation.
That’s about the only way I see Brooklyn parting with their top player on a team with few good players.

The bolded is where you went wrong. There isn't much they've done in recent years that makes me think their goal is to become a good team.

I think it makes sense from the standpoint that Garland is younger and signed long-term on a good contract. Mikal turns 28 before next season, Garland just turned 24. Bridges is on a great contract right now, but his next deal will be expensive. They can have a lot of space freeing up in the next year depending on what they choose to do in the trade market. Just depends on how confident they are in playing the free-agent market and putting pieces around Garland.

I can see why the Nets would do it if they could do a straight-up swap, but I think two things make it extremely difficult:
  1. The Nets don't control their picks for several years
  2. Garland makes $13M more than Bridges
While getting the younger Garland is good, they have no incentive to be bad or lack upside in the draft as they don't control their picks (though it seems like they're trying to do so anyway). The salary difference could make completing a trade very complicated, especially since the Cavs don't have picks they can trade to compensate the Nets. The trade that would work financially would be Garland for Mikal & DFS, but that's too weighted for the Cavs without being able to include picks.

Playing around with trade machine for the hell of it. Let's say GSW wants to make a final run with Steph, Klay, and Green. Are you taking this trade if proposed to you, and would GSW offer something like this?

Why for each:

Cavs: Add a wing, a young SG with upside, a legit backup C, and a couple of picks.
Warriors: Seems pretty obvious, but add Mitchell to Steph, Kuminga, and Green. Still have Paul's contract and some other stuff to add another big.

Cavs roster after trade:

PG: Garland, CPJ
SG: Podziemski, LeVert, Merrill
SF: Wiggins, Strus
PF: Mobley, Wade, Niang
C: Allen, Looney

Probably flipping Okoro at that point and maybe Niang as well.

I think something like this might be more in line with what to expect in a Mitchell trade instead of a player like Bridges. It doesn't blow me away by any means, but it fills some holes, adds picks, and has a lot of upside if guys develop or if Wiggins regains his form from a few years ago.

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO!!!

*ANY* trade of Don to GSW that doesn't include Steph had better include Kuminga, Podziemski, TJD, Moody and every draft pick for as long as that franchise is in existence. Don is an MVP candidate and All-NBA player. Trading his $1 for a dime, penny, quarter and 3 nickels ain't gonna cut it.
