Tressel has one of the best field goal kickers at his disposal but refuses to use him and it has almost cost OSU two games in a row. Kid kicked a 50+ yarder last week that cleared by 15 yards and has shown over and over he's got a 60 yard leg. So what does Tressel do with this weapon at his disposal? He goes for it against Navy with his ever so creative run up the middle instead of taking the field goal and putting the game to 3 scores. Against USC? He takes a delay penalty from the 35 yard line so he could punt the ball and end up with what 20 yards in field position?? Awful. If I was the kicker I would ask Tressel what I did wrong. And the fact that Tressel ran the ball up the gut TWICE IN A ROW without knowing first he was in 4 down territority on the goal line just shows how unprepared he is. You go for the jugular there. You have so much confidence in your D as evidence to all your other boneheaded calls, why on earth would you not go for 6 and your worst case scenario is you give USC and their freshman QB the ball on the 1 with 106,000 fans in his ear? They would have had the ball at the loudest part of the stadium. I know hindsight is 20/20 but these are calls championship coaches make in their sleep. Tressel is obviously not one of them as evidence to their SEVEN losses now in a row to teams ranked in the top 5. Pathetic..

So you are mad when we don't kick a long ass field goal and then pissed when we did. Look i know he can make 60 yard field goals just like i can make half court shots. I can do it but in a game I'm not going to try it. If we tried to kick it instead of punt and the kick misses every one bitches. Hell if USC returned the kick for a TD Tressel would have been ran out of town. Look I'm not saying Tressel is the best coach but really he is not the worst and i hate it when people get on here and just bitch about everything.

People calling for Tressel's job don't have a clue about how college sports operate. Calling plays is probably near the bottom of the list of his responsibilities. Sure Tressel is a conservative coach who prefers winning with strong defense and a dominant running game, but he isn't calling offensive plays in the game.

Tressel's recruiting power, which is among the three most time consuming parts of his job, is exactly why Ohio State is even close to winning a game against USC. I realize it may feel like the season is over, but I am sure Ohio State won a ton of respect for playing a West Coast powerhouse as an out of conference game. The Slowhio State myth was running wild these past two years out on the Left Coast.

He's the offensive coordinater, he has a defensive coordinater so yeah I'd say that consumes a lot of his responsibilities. And to the other poster, yes moron. Kicking a field goal isn't just cut n dry, each situation warrants the correct call and he failed twice. Your telling me they were the right calls? If so it's an honor Mr. Tressel that you post on these boards but you are in minority with your opinion.

And I agree with you Randolph and I've always loved the intangibles Tressel brings including, especially recruiting. But his in game adjustments make him a 2nd tier coach, how many times has he proven this over and over??

First off, it's always a great post when you insult someone's intelligence, then lack a basic grip of the English language.

Anyways, Tressel didn't decide not to kick from the 35, it was from the 40. The delay of game penalty moved us back to the 45. At that point in the game, attempting a 57 yard field goal wasn't the right call.

If you want to nitpick about the game and complain about where it was lost, you can point to the clock management at the end of the first half, and Pryor taking a sack in the fourth that moved us out of field goal range. Those two plays cost us the game.

However, it's not an awful defeat. OSU played better than I expected going in. Our defense was phenomenal. Up until the last drive, they basically gave up three points all game to USC, because the first touchdown was basically handed to USC by our offense. Nonetheless, after starting on our two yard line, USC had to go for it on fourth down to get the touchdown. A large pat on the back is owed to the Buckeye defense for this game.

Pryor keeps showing his lack of football intelligence. I love the kid and his potential, but he needs to be able to read defenses and make the right plays.

Anyways, I still expect OSU to run the table and end up in a lower-tier BCS bowl game at the end of the year.

And, by the way, when you're brand new to these forums, it's never a good idea to call people morons simply because they have dissenting opinions. I hope you can see the error in your ways and involve yourself in more intelligent discussion without ad hominem attacks in the future.

I admit that I forgot Tressel doesn't have an O-coordinator. That is certainly a point people have every right to debate, and obviously I don't follow OSU as closely as others on this site. That is what I get for living in California so long.

I do know enough about how Tressel runs his program to say he is no second-tier coach. His win percentages tell the story through statistics, and his reputation in the coaching community is represented in his stellar recruits. I'd suggest one close loss to what is considered a top-five college program should not be his undoing in Columbus. One issue I take with the video game generation of fans is that EA Sports type of play-calling might be more exciting to watch, but it also doesn't seem to get you in a BCS Bowl game very often.

As for the personal attacks, well, its time to read the rules of the forum.

As for the play calling debate while i do think that Tressel should open up the playbook he is not doing a bad job. Everyone want us to just open it up and let Pryor to kill it but did you guys see him last night. I would like to see some more runs out of TP, maybe from the Pistol formation.

Starting to think Tressel does not really care nearly as much as the fans or players when we lose these games.

Tressel said he has received critical e-mails, but said the fans' poison makes him feel sorry for them.

"When I read some of them I feel terrible for them because there's no way they're happy," he said. "They've got to be some of the most unhappy people in the world, and I feel bad because we just made them less happy, and I hate to be a part of making someone less happy. I mean, they're already miserable."

This guy really does not get it, at all. I think he's losing touch of what THE Ohio State University's football program is all about: winning. Not respecting your opponent, not about being nice, or being classy or being a great man or just having fun. Well, it's about all those things...but above all of those things it's about winning.

He seems to have lost sight of that. You never want to hear a guy being paid millions to win football games say crap like this. Fire him.

Good point. He deserves to be fired, but there's nobody better to replace him. Shitty situation.

If we have a top coach that will come in at the end of the season then i am ok with it but to just fire someone to fire them is stupid. What about les you guys think he will come back to Ohio? Also would you guys want him to come back to Ohio?

.

Yeah, sadly Pryor just doesn't have good instincts under pressure. His poor decision against Penn State last year was devastating. Plus, he made a similar decision to make a late pitch against USC and was fortunate that it didn't blow up in his face. He missed a ton of open receivers despite getting decent pass protection. He doesn't make good decisions. He doesn't pass well. And, he isn't really a leader. We need more from him.

I shouldn't say this...

Many top college coaches are Ohioans, because obviously, football is religion. Urban Meyer (best college coach in the nation, IMO) is from Astabula, Lou Holtz is from Lima... there are plenty of great Ohio football coaches.

But...

Don't expect Meyer to void his contract (currently 4 million a year) with Florida. There is no buyout. When that contract is up, sure try talking to him. Tressel, born in Mentor, makes 3.5 million a year, also no buyout.

What I want to stress is that Tressel deserves much better than the way he has been treated this week by The Ohio State fanbase. Winning 73.8% of the time and churning out professional players consistently deserves much more respect.

I'm this close >< to just giving up on Ohio State because of the elitist and ungrateful attitude I've been seeing the past few days. If this is what an Ohio State fan is, I don't want to be one.
