Tressel

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
OH i'm not saying to dump him for the next guy who wants to coach at OSU but for a top coach you might have to do it. IMO i think it would be best to bring in a play caller for the O. Maybe not even to call the plays just to spice up the O.

I shouldn't say this...

Many top college coaches are Ohioans, because obviously, football is religion. Urban Meyer (best college coach in the nation, IMO) is from Astabula, Lou Holtz is from Lima... there are plenty of great Ohio football coaches.

But...

Don't expect Meyer to void his contract (currently 4 million a year) with Florida. There is no buyout. When that contract is up, sure try talking to him. Tressel, born in Mentor, makes 3.5 million a year, also no buyout.

What I want to stress is that Tressel deserves much better than the way he has been treated this week by The Ohio State fanbase. Winning 73.8% of the time and churning out professional players consistently deserves much more respect.

I'm this close >< to just giving up on Ohio State because of the elitist and ungrateful attitude I've been seeing the past few days. If this is what an Ohio State fan is, I don't want to be one.

Uh...you play to win titles. It's great he beats the bad teams in the Little Ten but, you kinda need to do more than that.

This is Ohio State. if you want to "not be a fan" because this is an elite program with elite expectations, go right ahead. Doesnt make sense to me though.

Can you enjoy a season if the chances for a championship are lowered?

Like this season where we have no shot? I knew that coming in, because we are reloading...and yes, I can enjoy it. Seeing new, young talent on the field and developing is part of the fun of sports.

On the other hand, though, I expect these great recruiting classes to eventually compete for a national title. And I expect to win one, too. That's how it is with these elite programs. You play to win titles. This isn't Toledo, this isn't Northern Iowa. You know?

This is why I said I will try not to call for Tressel's head UNLESS Pryor leaves after his senior year and we haven't done squat still. I'll try to restrain myself until then. But with a school with perennially great recruiting classes and all the talent that gets brought in, to have been made a joke for the past 3 years and counting is definitely not a promising direction and Tressel deserves the criticism, he really does.

This discussion of firing Tressel is ridiculous.

I know we are OSU and our standards are to win it all every year, but c'mon that's not realistic at all and considering our history, as rich as it is, we aren't really even supposed to be in contention as much as Tressel has had us. Woody won 5 titles in 30 years and that was without a championship game. He also only won 13 Big Ten titles.

People need to cut out these unrealistic expectations and understand that we have a great coach that gets us in the discussion and when we have the talent, we will win.

Fire Tressel and you'll get some Charlie Weiss style jackass that ruins our program. We are constantly a top 10 team in the league and I don't understand why that isn't good enough.

I'd like to ask those that keep saying that we should be in contention every year how many championships they've seen the Buckeyes win?? I've only seen one and it was a miracle so I don't know how we get off with that mindset.

The problem is that Tressel has spoiled all you little brats and you have no historical perspective.

Yeah, I'm not advocating firing Tressel. It is disturbing however that it seems each time we play a top team, we do seem to get out coached in those games. The in game adjustments are simply done better by our opponent. The last drive of 95 yards; how did that happen? It's hard to tell on TV, but were we in a sort of prevent defense? Even though we played great on D for almost the entire game, why would we change up that D for the last drive? Why would we allow a 19 year old kid who looks like he's just off the bottle to take the ball down our throats? Why were those receivers soooo wide open on that drive when the same receivers were not open the prior 3 and 3/4 quarters? I think the answers are in the fact that Carrol made the correct adjustments and Tressel made the incorrect adjustments. That's an ongoing problem for each top team we play.

I'm not sure how helpful it is to put a lot of blame on Pryor for the game. Didn't we hear throughout the summer how much improved Pryor is this year? Didn't we hear how his footwork and his throwing technique is vastly improved? We heard that from HIS coaches, right? We heard how great strides he has made, etc. Has he? Not from the angle I watched the game. In fact; he played better in many games last year. Why did he look so lost? You have to put lots of blame on the coaching of this kid. Something went terribly wrong, and that something better be fixed real soon.

As far as play calling and Tressel goes; he made some dumb decisions. He only claimed making one bad one that I'm aware of. His mouthing off about the fans and emails was pathetic and was beneath him. Things better change come Saturday. Toledo will be out to bash OSU in Cleveland. Winning that game would make their entire year, and probably make their entire 4 years of schooling at Toledo U.

LMAO

All these "unrealistic expectations" comment and "tressel has spoiled you!" mean that you guys still have yet to realize this is Ohio State and choking on our own blood in big games repeatedly year after year is cause for concern.

Nobody said he has to WIN a title every year. He won one in 2002 and apparently is still living off that title in your eyes and the eyes of many other fans. Fine, whatever, I think that's horseshit but it's better than nothing. The problem is he hasn't done diddly squat since then except beat Michigan. Whoop de fucking do, Michigan has been a joke, and looks like they're finally on the rise again folks. I guess it'll take a few losses to Michigan to open some peoples' eyes.

Once Michigan's new offense gets going, and Tressel ball comes full swing and is annihilated by it, then maybe we'll see some of you change your minds.

Anywho, the point is nobody is spoiled by Tressel. They want to be relevant again. How can you say people are spoiled by Tressel when Ohio State has become irrelevant and disrespected under him? That's the ultimate knock on a coach. Our program is ridiculed and disrespected daily and treated as if it were a joke. Nobody is impressed if we beat Iowa or Youngstown or Toledo, it's time to stop acting like those victories mean anything.

when ohio state won the national championship, we had many players from the south. tressel did not recruit these players he inherited them. tressel continues to target only northern recruits. has anyone noticed where that has taken us?

isnt jamaal berry from south

Very true. Nobody ever seems to mention that Tressel won the National Championship with Cooper's players.

Edit: I meant very true on the bolded part.

I knew that and wanted to mention it, but it kinda of sounded like a cheap shot especially since I think Ohio State has the talent to win a lot of these big games...at least vs Texas and USC.

Extremely false statement.

The only starters from the "South" on the 2002 team were Bryce Bishop, Michael Jenkins and Chris Gamble, and Bishop was benched his senior year. Not to mention, Jenkins grew up in Cincy, but his family moved to Florida while he was in High School, and Gamble signed his LOI when Tressel was coach.

Starters on this year's team from the South: Michael Brewster (Fla), Cameron Heyward (Ga), Brian Rolle (Fla), and Chimdi Chekwa (Fla). Duron Carter (Fla), JB Shugarts (TX) and Anderson Russel (GA) have also started at times.

Here are some other Tressel recruits from the South, all of whom were starters at some point: Santonio Holmes, Nate Salley, Brandon Mitchell, Ahston Youboty, Nader Abdallah.

In Tressel's last 2 classes, he's signed 45 guys, 10 of which are from the South (11 if you inclide Kentucky as "South", but that would add Robert Reynolds to the 2002 squad as a Southern player).

So basically, :gtfo:

After reading these posts I completely forgot Tressel was from Mentor. He can come back and coach our team. When I was in high school (2 years ago), we went to the D1 championship twice but lost. I know off topic but it came up to me.
