Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't think the 2 inches of height he's giving away really has anything to do with it. The wear and tear would have more to do with him being severely out-weighed and facing an uphill battle in terms of physical strength every night fighting for position.

Yeah, it's not about height ... it's about weight, strength and simple physics. This isn't a situation like hoping a rail thin guy like Nerlens Noel won't snap in two. TT is very strong and uses leverage generated by his lower body, but having a weight/strength advantage is an advantage when contact occurs - and it still occurs game in game out.

I'm not saying this is a big concern, just something to watch. For instance, let's see if continues to block shots at the same rate as the season drags on.

The good news is, I've been pleasantly surprised watching Channing Frye play the 5. With the effort he's been giving thus far, he's been serviceable defensively enough to keep Tristan fresh. He more than makes up for anything he gives up on the defensive end by being an offensive microwave for us.

In the early going, opponents are shooting 3.1% less from the field against Frye than they do normally from the range of 0-10 feet.

Thompson is at -7.8% in this range, showing he's really getting the job done for us in the early part of the season. Although it's a small sample size, 2 of our games have included Drummond and Dwight, another with Embiid, and two of JV. I'll be interested in seeing how it plays out for the year.

I really think Tristan improved over the off-season.

Part of it is a by-product of our entire team improving as a unit, but Tristan looks more coordinated than I've ever seen him look.

:chuckle:

Wait, you don't see it? It's not nearly as blatant as Boguts but it happens. It doesn't matter, most centers nowadays do it anyway.
Isee Thompson pushing off on a guy who is pushing into him.

I think its a significant difference.

Dwight Howard isn't a 7 footer either. I used to be adamant that every good team needed a legit 7 foot paint protector but now I'm not so sure since the league is changing in that regard.

Lower body strength does matter. TT has a pretty massive set of glutes on him. Not Wes Unseld massive, but more so than most of the centers he goes against.

He's pretty built in the lower body. And with the way he throws people around underneath the rim (especially Draymond Green lol) he's gotta be pretty strong in the upper body as well.

I remember one playoffs interview where Lebron was talking about Tristan and he was like "Tristan's not the biggest or the strongest guy..." and TT nodded when LBJ said he wasn't the biggest but made a kind of stank face when LBJ said he wasn't the strongest. Makes me think we as a fan base massively underrate his strength, because if he shows that much confidence in that attribute he must really be muscling bigger guys better than we give him credit for.

Time to finally end the charade of playing this guy as a starting 5. Blah blah blah we won a title, I've got news for you, and I'm sorry to ruffle feathers, but we weren't winning that series if Bogut didn't go down.

It's 2014 all over again...our interior is a neon-lit, 24-hour vacancy with free HBO.

Dwight is 6'10 but looks and plays like he's 7'3. He's a monster just like deandre. TT looks like a child next to them. And gets pushed around like one. He might have nice glutes but IMO those are overrated. KG and Tyson chandler looked like they never worked out their legs.

TT's ability to switch as a five is the reason Curry was largely pedestrian. That changes with a traditional five.
