Couldn't find any threads.

My 65" Vizio backlighting is fubar. From a Google search it could be as easy as popping the back panel off and replacing a $15 dollar part. But also this is a great excuse to upgrade, fix the TV later and throw it in bonus room.

I've gone back and forth on buying budget vs. good TVs. This Vizio put a bad taste in my mouth so I think I wanna go "good."

So I was thinking of a 75-77" in the range of $1200 or so which I think (?) gets you a pretty good TV. Seems like I need to go to $2k to get a good 85" like Sony 90 series and maybe it's just not worth it.

TV is in a room with a decent amount of natural light. It's on top of my mantle and it's 99% going to stay there. So viewing angle somewhat important and brightness important. Would like high contrast, bright, local dimming.

Main problems with current TV is that it doesn't handle action/sports well, the low light detail sucks, and there's blooming. I watch with captions a lot of the time.

Haven't gamed in a while but I typ. do in the winter a bit.

Mostly I stream the Paw Patrol movie.

Any recommendations? Advice on 75-77 vs 85?

@TheISHT my tech nerd deal seeking coworker said the same thing. Is there an issue with using in a bright room?

Thinking more though.... The windows are on the east so not a huge deal. Generally don't watch TV till later.

@FiveThous is that the same thing as the 90 series? That was my tentative pick at the $2000 85" price point

Half the reason why I hate TV shopping is the f'ing naming convention or need of a decoder if there is any logic to the name.

55" LG OLEDs can be had in the $900 price range on deals. 65" around $1350, 77" around $1900. There was a deal for 77" Sony Bravia OLED at CostCo a couple of weeks ago as low as $1500. As the economy seems more shaky and towards end of year/Black Friday, more deals come along. There may be tv deals at Best Buy or other electronic stores during Amazon's Big Deal days this week 10/10 and 10/11.

I have an LG C7 from '17 and it is still as crisp as new, no burned in pixels, couple of thousand hours of use. I don't like the LG smart application and hook up a Roku for online apps.

If used primarily in a direct/bright light area where you wouldn't pull shades to darken, I would look at QLED tvs instead.

I think mine was a Bravia A80 and I bought it two years ago so I could be wrong on the series.

Tracking, cause I'm in the market too.

Further, a Roku question as I have 2 very lightly used tv's that I'm paying money to Xfinity to have their box on it. I'm looking at a Roku Express for 21 bucks - is that fine for some older HD tv's (say 10 years old) sitting in a kid and a spare bedroom? Only needs are Disney+ and YouTube for now.

The only thing I don't like about the Roku Express is that it uses an IR remote and the double sided tape never keeps the little box in place for long.

The Rokus are simple and easy to use. The menus if you want to change some setting though, they seem to not be as logical to find. For kids to use, they are perfect though. The menus are under too many clicks for them to screw something up and the icons for apps are large and right at the homepage.

Fire stick has a remote that uses radio waves so you can put the stick behind the TV and not have to point the remote at the TV. Menus are more complex for apps but the menus for settings are alot more logical/user friendly.

Welp that made my decision pretty easy... Thanks! Looks like Amazon is already sold out at that price point so Walmart it is.

MOTHER %^*&%$

appears to be sold out on walmart too now, I got sidetracked with work and never pulled the trigger

UN-MOTHER-&*(%^#*&%

Deal went through on Walmart!!

If that didn't work I was leaning towards a Hisense at like ~$1300. Might be a marginally better TV at least based on rtings.com reviews (for what its worth) but I'm maybe a bit more comfortable with the name brand anyways.

Eh BF deals are kinda trash from everything I had read

I mean if your only goal is to get the cheapest TV possible then yeah

Everything I have read says the best time to buy a TV is near the Super Bowl
