W & G: My Ideas on How Trade Alternatives Will Be Evaluated and Considered

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
After the 41st game he'll be officially retired. We aren't looking to trade him ..we're just going to benefit from the lowered payroll and resultant lowered luxury tax hit. That's how I percieve it all rolling out.

Why? He is an expiring and doesnt even play. I would think he would be the best piece for us to move cause he doesnt even play and automatically gives a team cap relief.

His salary would cost Gilbert double because of the luxury tax...this way it saves him money and the insurance policy covers most of it. We might think "oh who cares he's rich and he'll spend whatever amount to keep LeBron happy" and that may be true but there's no need to trade Snow and waste Gilbert's money...

Can someone inform me on who Reghi is and why he thinks we're getting G-Wall???

You must have started watching the Cavs only about two years ago if you don't remember Michael Reghi. :thumbdown

I'd like some clarification on what we are looking to do with our MLE.

Are we buying out Wally if he is traded and giving him the full MLE, are we giving Joe Smith the full MLE if he gets bought out, or are we going to split it between the two somehow???

How is this supposed to work out?

It's not even known if either of these 2 situations (Joe being bought out; Wally being traded and then bought out) will present themselves. I don't think anyone can have an answer at this point in time. I'd guess we'd definitely offer Joe whatever it took to get him (and IF he were bought out, I couldn't imagine him asking for the rest of our MLE, I'm sure it'd be less). As far as Wally, that's too hard to tell since it's too far away. From the sounds of it, both Wally and the Cavs would highly consider it though.

Another point about a prospective deal:

Currently we have two young talents in Hickson/Jackson, on top of three draft picks this year...

It's still questionable that either Hickson or Jackson will be able to play meaningful minutes next year, which would give us 5 players on our roster that couldn't contribute...

That obviously can't happen, and since we know now that it is a possibility, we can't be planning to keep all three picks/2 players going into the draft this year.

Maybe it ends up just being a trade where we bundle 2nd round picks to move up and get the guy we want in the first, maybe it means Jackson is more expendable than we think, because moving up in the first we can get another guy with his talents.

I'm not sure, but on top of Szczerbiak/Pavs, one of those pieces has to be traded.

well our 2ed wont be on the roster next yea you would think b/c its going THE LAST PICK IN THE Draft!!!! and with snow gone and maybe andy and pavs we would have the right amount of roster spots for them.

we need all our picks so we can trade for a great player next deadline with our young players and ben for maybe a bosh

The Cavs will not have their own 2nd round pick in 2009 (due to the Chicago/OKC trade I believe?), but we'll still have our own 1st rounder and the Bulls 2nd rounder next year.

Actually, we traded the lower of our 2nd round picks next year for Darnell. You're dead on with the combo of picks we'll have next year though.

i could see the cavs trading this year 1st rounder at the deadline. Then getting a project that will be overseas (most likely a pivot). The roster is deep enough at the moment any pick would be a waste.

I really think we need to do something with Wally's contract. Obviously, the best case scenario is getting Bosh or Butler, but the chances of either of those two things happening are slim. On the other hand, trading for either someone like Stephen Jackson or Gerald Wallace to give us more size in the backcourt or a solid big man seems quite possible with Wally's expiring contract. I really don't see any reason not to trade, especially if we expect Wally to get bought out of his contract and come back.

Right now, I think you have to give a slight advantage to the Celtics, especially if they have homecourt advantage in a playoff series. However, picking up a solid wing or big man probably gets us to about even and obviously getting Butler or Bosh without losing any of the starting 5 or Andy probably puts us way over the top.

Not to get off topic, butthere is part of me that wants us to not go for the all star caliber player simply to see LeBron be one of the only players to ever win a championship without another all star on the team (it doesn't appear that any other Cav will make it based on the early voting). If you go back through the years, Jordan had Pippen, Shaq had Kobe, the Spurs had multiple all stars, the Pistons I think did too, Heat had Wade and Shaq, Rockets had Clyde and Hakeem, 80's Pistons had Dumars and Thomas, etc etc etc. You can't find one team that only had one player considered to be a star in this league, though you can make a case for Mo and Z. Of course, there is no guarantee we win the 'ship with the current group of players.

HWat about former allstars? Because then we have 2 in the starting lineup besides Lebron. Ben Wallace and Z. Mo is not yet allstar quality, but he is close. We have enough talent to win, we need to work harder and a little luck. I do want more talent tho.

Hakeem was by himself in 94 wasn't he?

Duncan was the lone all-star on the Spurs 03 championship team. Manu and Parker were young and not yet all-stars. Robinson was playing at a role-player type level. Still great D tho.

They are both big men though, I dont think there has ever been a perimeter player to win a title without a secondary star, closest I can think of is when the Heat won it, during the finals Shaq was pretty much non existent and Wade put on a show.
