We could probably get Gomes on the cheap

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Definitely not a sexy pick, but he's a decent player.

Good FT shooter (82%) , we could always use more of them.

He'll probably ask for more than I'd be willing to pay him though, plus he doesn't fill one of our bigger needs.

He'd only be useful for the BAE, but he's going to get more than that elsewhere and is not yet old enough to be a ring chaser.

Ryan Gomes isn't the missing piece but we could use him and he probably would contribute more than Powe...plus he is young and we could probably get him on the cheap....

I'm not sure about that. Don't underestimate what a healthy Leon Powe is capable of.

Gomes would be a good pickup late in the FA game for added depth, but nothing more than that. I certainly wouldn't want to waster any of our MLE on him unless we strike out with all other better options.

If Powe can stay healthy he's a great asset. Dude can board like mad and that never hurts.

"Guys on the cheap" have no real incentive to sign anywhere right now.

I mean, Imagine a situation where LBJ and Bosh are here, DWade and STAT are in Miami, JJ stays in Atl, and Boozer goes wherever. There is now a shit-ton of capspace out there with no max players to spend it on.

So the guys who were "on the cheap" now have way more dollars thrown their way. While Bosh is saying it depends on where LBJ goes, all these other guys are as affected, if not more.

Yes please. Solid post player, decent shooter, pretty good passer, not a bad defender.
Gomes > Moon, Parker, Jawad etc.

Problem with Gomes is that most of his minutes would come at PF with some coming at the SF..

The Cavs currently have LeBron and Jamison who are going to get the majority of their minutes at the SF and PF... The Cavs also currently have Hickson, Varejao, Powe and even LeBron who can get minutes at PF and have Moon, Williams and Parker who can get minutes at SF..

So while Gomes is a nice player and a solid fit, he doesn't make sense here unless our PF or SF situation suddenly thins out...

Wow. Solid player that is gettable...

IMO, it's guys like this that a team like the Cavs can use.. Interchangeable forwards that can spell different guys, but maintain production...

I like Gomes game, but he is a little redundant on our teams at this point. However if we were to trade say Moon and Jamison then it would be a great pickup.

Always been a fan of Gomes. Just a solid versatile role player you can count on and who won't cause any problems.
He'd have to be very willing to play for cheap since the Cavs might only have the veteran minimum to offer him. There is some dispute as to whether the Cavs have the BAE to use. Reports did have it used on Z when he was brought back last season but there doesn't seem to be 100% absolute confirmation of that.
One plus is that Gomes will supposedly still get $1 million of his contract even after being let go. That would at least help make up for any lost pay if he takes a cheaper deal.

I'd be willing to take Gomes. Right now I still can't count on Powe for reliable consistent play and production. Although it's tough to know who makes sense to try to bring in until everything gets settled in the next couple of weeks.

Gomes is one solid bench player. Reminds me of Eric Williams - no, not the washed up old man the Cavs acquired for Christine Mihm, but younger Eric Williams in his prime.

That said, I agree with Smooth. We have so many forward tweeners, and everyone on RCF agrees that the real problem is our back court and huge hole at center.

If we are able to make a few trades, our priorities would change.

I think our roster is going to very different next year. I think Gomes could find a spot...

This could quite possibly be the most depressing thread title that I've ever seen given that it is nearly the beginning of the most important free agency period in franchise history.....lets just put Ryan Gomes in his rightful place as one of those generic role players that teams look to acquire in August or September to round out their rosters.
