Here we Brownies, here we go!
After starting the season 0 - 3, the Houston Texans have rattled off eight straight wins. The team is built to defend and win close games, and lately that has been a recipe for success. I selfishly counted myself among those who hoped back and knee injuries would cut JJ Watt's dominance short, especially after he missed so many games last year. He has paid no attention to my wishes and has double digits sacks and TFLs. Clowney on the other edge is also putting together a Pro Bowl type season against the run and in QB pressures. In between the bookends are some unsung but talented interior defensive tackles. They have weaknesses at linebacker, but the addition of Honey Badger solidified their defensive backfield enough to mask the linebackers. On offense, the offensive line is shaky but Watson has willed his team to a lot of close victories.
The Browns started off 4 1/2 point dogs, and that number increased to 5 1/2 point dogs because of the Texans consistent poise in close games and the loss of their owner Bob McNair.
If I were in a Vegas sportsbook right now, I'd take the Browns plus the 5 1/2 and laugh my way to the cashier Sunday night. However, I'm not confident the Browns are going to win this thing outright on the road against a Texans team who are rallying around the passing of their owner.
Prediction:
Texans 21 Browns 17 with multiple field goals biffed.
