Week 2: Bengals @ Browns

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They're missing a starting corner, a starting safety, a starting DE, and two starting LBs.

I wouldn't exactly crown them a top ten defensive unit, but they've been absolutely ravaged by injuries. Even the best defensive line is only going to get so much pressure when they've got a JV back seven behind them.

No matter who comes back from injury, I'd say this is a bottom 10 defense when it's all said and done.

with how weak their offensive line is how were the not more holds called against them. Even on the gustin facemask call the announcer mentioned that he was being held...

overall solid bounceback game. more time to rest and work on the film for week 3

I spotted 4-5 that weren't called along with their RT getting a headstart on every single play.

Eh, I can't make a judgment like that quite yet.

Assuming they get most of their defense back at some point this year, I don't think it's unreasonable for them to be at least in the 15-20 range.

Definitely need to address the LBs, though.

ETA: Also, their offensive line got away with a lot of holding tonight...

Our defense is essentially Garrett, Ward, and no one else. Richardson and Larry O are nice players but even our D-line depth is thin.

We may have the worst linebackers and safeties in football even when healthy.

I can’t really kill Woods yet... he’s been dealt a tough hand.

I don't know who you've watched, but the guys that are hurt and are coming back aren't really that good. Wilson being our best linebacker doesn't mean he's actually a good NFL linebacker. I like Greedy, but I think the jury's still out on him at this point. Vernon's had some injury problems throughout his career and played like dog poop last year. Clayborn seems to be useful.

The defense is missing guys, but Delpit was probably the biggest loss and he's not coming back. Barring some type of substantial trade, there's no way this is a top 15-20 defense.

This defense has me worried - I think only way Browns win games against good teams is by dominating time of possession

Sendejo .. that name reminds me of something else. Just waiting for one of these announcers to say it out.

Freddie would have thrown the ball 3 times on that first set of downs.

I'm a Stefanski fan. And Baker looked like 2018 Baker on all but exactly 1 play. Let's go boys.

Baker threw a ton of int's his rookie year. We liked him because he was aggresive and had more good throws than bad. Even on the bad throws he looked like 2018 Baker, and i am more than ok with that. Great run offense, good WR's and a gunslinger to get them the ball.

Now lets get our defense to stop some people and this could be a team

I think a full season of Delpit, Joseph, and Harrison would be far fromthe worst safety unit in the NFL.

Obv Delpit is some for the year, but hopefully Harrison is inserted as starter within the next few games. He’s barely been here two weeks though so I get why he’s hardly played in the first two games

Average yards per play was 9.5 to 4.7. 9.5 would've lead the league by a lot and 4.7 would've been 30th. Browns really dominated much of the game. Burrow was at 5.2 yards per attempts and when you factor in sacks, Bengals were under 5 per pass play. That is just really good by the Browns.

5 for 5 on 4th down is obviously unacceptable, but also not sustainable. Bengals also had a 30+ yard advantage in penalties and 3 times started at the 39 or better after a kick. All that and Cincy still needed a garbage time TD to keep it within single digits.

This was a really good performance in many facets, and much of the stuff that went wrong is correctable. Secondary is still ass, but when you're down 4 starters in your back 7, that will happen.

I am encouraged. Way more than I was after we beat the Jets in week 2 last year.
