Welcome Derrick Williams

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He brings an edge, a physicality, a hustle trait to our team that we needed... A good example of it is when he inbounds the ball to LeBron, Williams then goes straight to the lower block and gets good position under the rim and usually draws a foul because he's so physical down there and gets so deep... I've seen that play at least 3 times already since he's been here. Love what this guy brings to our team.

Is the the SF version of AV IMO in terms of hustle and a knack of where to be. I think and I always thought he was overrated to be a number two pick but we were in the tweener love days back then. He is giving it all and I even saw a roar to the crowd from him in the highlights and that was nice to see.

He had the second best +/- on team to Korver yesterday. Amazing how that combination has totally changed the bench to where the unit is almost unfair against most teams.

What a great find for the cavs. he has really helped provide an edge on the team and his willingness to guard point guard and start offense has been huge

His defense is surprising. I gotta admit I never really followed him, but defensively he is really versatile.
He was bothering Carmelo and I think he can definitely guard Durant adequately. I don't expect him to shut him down but if he is able to contest his shots well enough, that's good enough.

Again, I see a trend now that is quickly becoming a habit and that is the tendency to drift at the 3pt line. I don't know who's fault is that whether it's Lue or him, but more plays needs to be ran for him and when he has a smaller guy(D.Rose) he needs to post him up quickly.

I think we can roll some pretty good lineups now without a PG because Korver by himself opens up the game for other players.
I see that they want him to bing the ball up court and that's great. Let him feel involved but you gotta involve him more in the offense cause in the playoffs he isn't going to be as good from 3pt land and i'd like to see more set plays that the intention at the end is to give him the ball as a cutter/pnr man rather than the be the backup plan for the 3pt shot.

Someone needs to instill some PF habits in him rather than guard habits. He has a big body and he needs to pound inside.

That corner three looked nice last night. He could become a much better rebounder with some fine-tuning. That's the only weakness i see in his game and it's mostly fundamental issues from games i've watched.

He often loses his box-out assignment. He doesn't anticipate where the rebounds are going to land that well either. He is more than capable of grabbing them when they come to him due to his athleticism. I've already seen him out jump guys taller than him. He just has a tendency to overplay for the put back when guys are shooting long-range. As a great man once said, "aim small, miss small homie and vice versa."

The Lebron effect:

DWill had a 42.7% effective FG% with Miami this year

With Cleveland it's up to an incredible 66.1%

overall FG% up from 39% to 57%, 3 point FG% up from 20% to 38.5%

Granted only five games with the Cavs, but he's been averaging pretty big minutes for a bench player (almost 25 MPG).

Serious question: can we resign him under the cap for next year if we want to? Would our only option to do so be the MLE> Would we effectively have to choose between him and Deron Williams?

I watched this guy play all of last season. At no point was he even a remotely competent outside shooter. Now he's swishing threes. His defense never struck me as remarkable - now he's checking Derrick Rose on one possession and Melo on the next. It makes no sense.

I don't expect his outside shooting to sustain where it's been, and I hate watching him float around the perimeter so much. He needs to be rolling to the rim whenever possible, especially when TT isn't also on the court.

Defensively he continues to show capability though. Really nice depth find by Griffin.

You're probably right. Ty Lue deserves some credit too for experimenting and finding creative ways to use him. Nobody has ever used Derrick Williams to bring the ball up the court. And nobody has ever asking him to defend point guards. Lue gave him a shot at doing both and he's done both jobs admirably.

Maybe he was just used wrong and being on awful teams certainly never helped. I like how we are using him. We are using his athleticism to his advantage.

He actually has the skills, size, and athleticism to be a good defender. I think he's going to be the one asked to guard Kevin Durant. And I like it.
