Welcome Emoni Bates

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Bates is averaging 6 def rebounds a game. That's great for a SG and pretty good for a SF. Maybe he won't get that many, but it does show that some of his height is functional.

2 assists is better than I expected after a few summer league games, but watching him since, he does have some vision. If he gets with one of the pass heavy units like one with Merrill watch out. It might rub off.

It's all about defense. If he can work his way up to 0 there, he will be pretty good.

He's very young, but I hope he is working out with the vets as much as he can this summer.

I don’t see it. Not enough athleticism. Can’t get a shot off in the nba without shooting 5 feet from the line.

He's got a long way to go. He doesn't even look like he wants it at all. Maybe that's just me, or maybe it's just cause he looks slow next to NBA caliber athletes.

Overall, I'd say this was a good year for Emoni, he looked better today than I would have expected. He's still so young, get some lbs going...might turn serviceable in the next year or so.

Were we watching the same game? I thought he embarrassed himself out there and the stats back that up (3-12 shooting, 6 TOs).

Definitely a poor showing for any Emoni truthers out there who clamored for him getting more minutes with the big boys. Not many of them out there but there are a few (G. Bush for example).

He may never start, but I think in two years he will be a pro bench player..

IMO, this game was functionally irrelevant for assessing Bates. He was basically asked to play defacto point guard for much of the time he was on the floor because we were down so many ball handlers. It's simply not who he is or what he should be doing on a basketball court.

I hope yesterday's game provides Emoni a strong whiff of coffee in regards to how much he needs to improve and grow to become a real NBA player.

I stopped watching once they obviously decided to stop caring. So I would say it was fair that I am mostly talking about the first half of the game not where the Cavs decided to be dumpster fires.

Bates was one of the main reasons that they were a dumpster fire.

For what it's worth, if you track my comments in here (which who would) I really thought he was a total lost cause a few months ago. So my statement was based on better than being a lost cause.

Ehhh, IDK. The only lessons I hope he learned from him yesterday are:

  • he's not a PG, Which he already should have learned at memphis.
  • Go up with 2 hands on your dunks, when possible. 2 points are worth more than an extra sprinkling of nasty.
  • Even bad NBA players are pretty good. Work on your D.
Not sure how much else he can gleen.Do better at hitting the open shots you hit in the G League? Don't get nerves in your first extended run in the NBA?
