Welcome Todd Haley - Browns OC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Correct me if I'm way off base, but wasn't it reported that Hue spent more time with kizer than our actual QB coach? Might explain why he was let go.

Based on Kizer's performance, Hue spending more time with him than the QB coach would seem like a reason to let Hue go because Kizer didn't progress one bit.

Good lord. If we do this, let's just not pick a QB in the top 5 since we'll destroy him and we'll be picking #1 next year anyways.

There are worse people to have than Mularkey as the OC.

He's had just about everywhere he's been, save Jacksonville and Buffalo.

Tennessee went from 28th to 12th in YPA in the passing game from 2015 to 2016, though they did move back down to 17th this year.

I don't really know what happened to Mariota this year, but I haven't seen a compelling case for why it falls at the feet of Mularkey.

There were some pretty awful misses by Mariota which resulted in turnovers.

I like the thought of Mularkey. His offensive coaching has been good enough to get him a head coaching gig 3 different times. And he did just win a playoff game........

I'm not a fan of Mularkey, but I'd love to see him as OC because at least he has the ability to take over as an interim HC. That makes it more likely Hue could be fired mid-season, which currently is tops on my wish list for the Browns.

Mularkey wouldn’t actually call plays. Hue won’t let anyone do that. I’d be on board with this since he’s good with TEs and the oline. Hues not gonna let anyone call plays so we might as well hire someone who’s good at developing other positions.

I don't think Mularkey will end up here because Hue will see him as a potential threat/rival, but if he did come here, I think he'd call plays. Hue rejected Ryan calling plays because he'd only delegate that to an "experienced play caller", which does describe Mularkey. But again, given that I don't think he'll be coming here, it's kind of meaningless point.

Kinda sucks lebeau will most likely retire now. His defense carried them to the playoffs. I’d love to bring him here as like a defensive consultant but he and Gregg run entirely different defenses.

If you're going to have a young QB, there are worse things to have than:

Hue Jackson - 16 years NFL experience, 8 as OC/HC
Mike Mularkey - 23 years NFL experience, 16 as an OC/HC
Ken Zampese - 19 years NFL experience, 14 as a QB/OC

Now, do I prefer a young up and comer in the mold of Sean Ryan or John DeFelippo? Yes. I'd like to make that clear.

Do I think we could do worse, definitely.

Lost in this is the notion that a guy like Ryan won't be hired because he hasn't called plays before.

Seeing reports that Hue and Mularkey are close/friends and curious how because I’m not noticing overlapping stops on their resumes? Shared mentor? Early time together on a staff 20-25 years ago?

Never worked together, but it's a good ol boys league and they've been around it forever.
