Why is everyone so keen on attaining Shaq or CV31. First off I believe Shaq would be a horrible addition to the team, unless we also trade away Z for a more mobile 4. Our front court would be the slowest in the league and our pick and roll defense would just get worse. Shaq basically is a very, very large and dominant presence in the lane and a good low post scorer. (Something we lack). But then again he clogs the lane, so it would be tougher for LBJ to get it going offensively. CV31 is a decent pickup and provides very good range, but he doesn't help the team that much. We get another shooter, but his defense his questionable.

Rasheed Wallace on the other hand not only is a terrefic low post defender (With a good history against Dwight) but he has a decent shot as well. He's average scoring in the low post and a decent rebounder as well. (But this team is already a solid rebounding team) The only thing I don't like about Wallace is how he has disrespected LBJ and said the referees led the Cavaliers to the finals. (in 2007)

Though aquiring Shaq puts us in the best position for the 2010 free agency. So we can try to get Amare or Bosh to come to Cleveland.

Re: What's wrong with Rasheed Wallace

Not many people want to add another old jump shooting limited big man. Z averaged more points than Rasheed last year, we all want someone who can post up and score down low.

Re: What's wrong with Rasheed Wallace

I think most Cavs fans have a visceral reaction against Rasheed Wallace. His attitude has not left many fans enamored of him, much less Cavs fans. Far too many times we've seen him cause problems for his team.

Additionally, his age and decrease in production last year were not encouraging signs either.

The risks are quite sizable.

Is he better than some of what we have (ie could he offer us an improvement)? Sure.

Do the rewards outweigh the risks? That's the big question with Sheed, imo.

Re: What's wrong with Rasheed Wallace

You also run a pretty big risk in terms of messing up the chemistry in the locker room with rasheed, 1.) because of his history vs. the cavs and in particular against Z, and 2.) because he has a history of acting like a knucklehead when the waters get choppy. NBA season's are long and even on the best of teams there can be some pretty big ups and downs. I've read in certain places that the cavs would surely keep wallace around if they brought in rasheed to help ease the transition.

But I agree with triple threat more than anything. How many old decrepit big men with little to no low post game can you possibly play?

Re: What's wrong with Rasheed Wallace

I was always a big fan of Sheed's game. I can't stand his personality and I hate the guy, but when he wanted to, he was un-guardable.

If this was the Sheed of a few years ago I wouldn't hesitate to snag him.

I like the idea of having Sheed and Big Ben on the Cavs....

...four years ago...

Re: What's wrong with Rasheed Wallace

I admit. I love Rasheed's skill set. But after his massive fall off last year, left me feelling like Antonio MyDyess has more left. And that's why I'm tepid on the whole issue.

We only get one midlevel to use. As for trading Ben Wallace, our options are limited, and while Shaq isn't what he used to be, he has the same amount of time left as Wallace so he's a definite upgrade and doesn't hurt our long term flexibility. To get more talent wise or a better long term fit then Shaq, we'll certainly have to put ourselves in a riskier financial position. Rasheed probably commands at least a two year deal (which is a risk in an of itself if he's as bad as he looked at the end of last year).

About sheed,i know the cavs have interest and all but...

Is he technically guaranteed to be here or at least have an agreement in place??

The last impression of Sheed was of a man that did not care nor competed in the final games of his team's season..

Rasheed is acceptable if he's our MLE and we get two starter quality players via trade.

I say get Shaq and Sheed....move Z to the Bench

Also I hate the Shaq clogs the lane argument...did Kobe or wade have trouble getting to the bucket?....I don't think they did

And teams will have to double him and that may lead to LBJ gettin some swing passes with defenders outta position instead of him always being the one dishing out the initial pass from the doubel team....I think with the Diesel we win it all and we will be the center of attention all year...
The slowest frontcourt in the NBA?....i hope nobody expects Shaq and Z to be on the court together?....that will never happen except maybe vs the Spurs or something ...

We bring Andy and Z off the bench

Nothing at all wrong with Rasheed. If we sign him and then trade Ben for something useful on the wings, we'd be set. Sheed can take Ben's minutes easily and he's 1000x better offensively, while just as capable defensively. He might be better on defense simply because he's much bigger.

You are 100% right on this. It is easy to forget why Shaq is so good, but he is the best passing big man there is. How does that help us? That means LBJ can score pretty much whenever he wants. Post Shaq, he gets doubled, he scores or Lebron does. It is just that easy for real.

He's got a hole in his head. Literally.

Because a lateral move doesn't do this team any good.
