I've been paying close attention to OKC's summer league this year, and Mullens has been rather dominant. I know to this point he is all potential and no substance in the actual NBA, but he is a legit 7 ft and incredibly athletic. Plus he has some really good post moves already, and his mid range game isn't bad either. He's averaging 16 ppg right now and around 6-7 boards.

I'd like to see the Cavs go after him via trade, and see how he develops. His athleticism would be perfect in Scott's system as he runs the floor very well. I doubt he becomes anything more than a role player or backup center in the league, but you never know with his potential. Sure his rebounding should be better for a guy his size, and his D isn't great, but he's very young and can continue to improve. I would say the potential reward would definitely outweigh the cost of getting him, as OKC just drafted yet another center prospect this year.

We need to go after a young talented center in this mold to pair with JJ, and hopefully develop over a few years.

Hell no. Rather have Kosta Koufos, but none of the above would be option #1.

Problem is, we need someone who'll be a good defender and rebounder next to JJ and I don't see Mullens being that..

I'd much rather go after the other OSU big, in Kofous, who I believe has a better chance of doing that...

God no, not the self proclaimed "triple threat".

I'd be willing to take a chance on either Mullins or Koufos. Each have enough raw ability to have a chance to still possibly develop into at least a decent backup C. At this point the Cavs just need to get a big body with some upside to help fill the C spot. I'm less concerned about great fits than I have been in recent seasons.
Have to think Koufos is the one that would be easier and cheaper to acquire.

Let's get over our love of shitty former OSU players...

Good tools and physical potential . . . but a shitty attitude, and a questionable work ethic (beside the obvious inexperience factor due to leaving college too early) are the reasons why he has gone from #1 HS recruit to NBADL afterthought in just a couple short seasons. Too bad, because I think he could be a rotation player in the league with some good coaching and hard work. Can almost say the same for Koufos - except that he seems to have at least figured something out after (not) playing for Jerry Sloan. I'd take a flier on either of them if the price is right. Koufos is more interesting and more likely a contributor. BJ is prob only worth a minimum non-guaranteed deal.

IMO

I would hardly call him an afterthought in the D league, his stat line last year was pretty darn good, and those numbers have taken a step up in the summer league so far this year.

This has nothing to do with him going to OSU. Heck I barely remember him on the team at all, partly because that team underachieved and partly because the one year he was there we used him as the 6th man.

But theres no denying his natural talent and physical gifts...where else are we going to get a guy that big with such good potential and athleticism? We better start at least looking, because great teams IMO are built around the big fellas down low.

Saying all of that, the one poster is right...OKC more than likely wouldn't trade him anyway unless we offer them too much.

I would take Mullens everyday of the week over Kofus. At least Mullens will play on the block unlike Kofous.

Poor attitude is the definition of Kofous, Mullens at least has some skills to build off as a C...

Mullens, Koufos, Conley, would all be nice pickups cheap since i do think they all still have potential. Hoever, it also seems clear that none of these guys are obviously available. Brewer, on th other hand , may be available but why would he come here unless we overpay if he is also being courted by the Bulls, I believe?

What is the desire to make this team the Cleveland Buckeyes?

Hi, Mullens was so bad that he couldn't start AS A COLLEGE KID ON HIS COLLEGE TEAM!

Kosta Dofus... you mean the guy with his mom as his agent who is afraid of physical contact?

Is it any wonder Columbus Radio is brutal on these two guys?

Buckeye fans are always brutal towards anyone they feel left the program too early. These guys are really young, but they're talented and will take time to develop.
