I think there are going to be some bumps in the road. Okoro is really more of a 2 than a 3, and while he's perfect in a backcourt rotation that has Garland/Mitchell in it, I'm not sure the three of them can be on the floor against teams that have good SFs and PGs. I'm hoping that a Wade/LeVert SF rotation is passable. Mitchell is still going to have to facilitate some out of the 2. He can't freeze Allen and Mobley out of the offense. Everyone ate and everyone was happy last season. It's going to be important to keep that dynamic going. There's obviously less urgency to rush Rubio back this season, but assuming the Cavs still plan on bringing him back this season, that's going to be an adjustment.
If Windler can't at least beat Cedi out for that 3rd string SF spot in camp, the Cavs have to consider letting that rookie option lapse. Stevens gets overrated by Cavs fans. It's not to say he doesn't have a role, but if he's playing more than 10-15 minutes a game, or the game is being called tight, he's not a positive out there. Our front court backups were in their prime a decade ago. I don't know how you have Love and Lopez on the court at the same time. In terms of lateral quickness and defensive rotations, that's all kinds of yikes. It's not just that the Cavs were able to put three 7 footers on the court at the same time last year, it's that they had two seven footers on the court more often than not.
I think we're going to miss Lauri more than his detractors are willing to admit. We're top heavy right now. Our best bench player won't be on the court until February. Bickerstaff is going to have to experiment with rotations, they won't all work, and the fanbase will be all over him. Walton was brought in to develop and implement a player/ball movement system. Is that still a thing, or are we dialing it back now that we traded for Mitchell? I have us a 50-win team.
The Bulls, Hornets, and Heat will all take a step back.
I'm not sold on Philly's big offseason acquisition of PJ Tucker (although Melton is legit). I'll believe that Fat Thor is really recommitting himself when he doesn't show up with the physique of a retired truck driver.
I'm also not sold on a Murray/Trae backcourt offensively. The Hawks lost two shooters in Gallo and Huerter which makes it even easier to play a box and one against them.
The Celtics success will be tied to the ability of R. Williams and Brogdon to stay healthy which neither player has been able to do over the past couple seasons. I don't think there's any chance they get by the Bucks last year if Middleton was healthy.
The Raptors center rotation is still questionable and their backup guards are still awful. I feel like Nurse will run FVV into the ground (hopefully after they extend him as I see the Raps as the biggest threats over the next three or four years).
The Nets could implode at any moment, or and I sincerely mean this, they could stop being messy bitches for a hot minute, get it together, and win it all this year.
I still have a healthy Bucks team as the favorites for this season though.
I have us somewhere between 3-6 in the East this season. Probably a second round out.
