Given the chain of events Grant, and now Griffin have sprung on the cavaliers I think it's about a certainty the cavs just miss the play offs.

With this likely scenario the cavs will pick around 10, and with the health of varejao in question always, and the possible departure of Hawes the cavs will need a center, or a big, athletic shot blocking big man if they do resign hawes.

Draftexpress has him going at 12, and with the dearth of centers he'll probably go sooner, but i hope the talent level pushes him down a little bit to where the cavaliers will be able to grab him so we have some size going forward.

I still just see Ryan Hollins with this kid. Uber-athletic. Absolutely zero offensive game. A bit "off" mentally. I could absolutely be wrong about him, and REALLY hope I am if he joins the Cavaliers, but I just don't think he'll be that good in the NBA.

He may not come out this year, but I still prefer AJ Hammons as a center prospect. I don't think Cauley-Stein is even the best pro center prospect on his own team. Dakari Johnson is more likely to be a good NBA center than Cauley-Stein.

I'm hoping more javale McGee then Hollins. Think stein has more potential to fill out and just has the physical tools that says nba. He'll probably struggle with the mental game but his physical prowess is something to bet on.

Wait...McGee would certainly not be worth a lottery pick, especially not in this draft

Even in this draft, 50% of the lottery wont be as good as McGee. People constantly over estimate how many players actually work out.

How good do you think McGee is? Unless he magically becomes intelligent at some point he's an energy guy off the bench at best. You expect to at least get a solid starter picking in the lottery of this draft.

I don't know about 50% but I agree with the premise though. If our lottery pick (10-12) turned out to be a player of McGee's caliber I'd be satisfied.

McGee is a solid starter at a premium position in the NBA.

I mean, he gets a certain level of production out of pure size and athletic ability, but he's not smart enough to play in any sophisticated offensive or defensive system. There's a reason the Nuggets have been consistently worse with him on the court these past few years.

YES you hit it on the nail. People better be realistic with what will be there at 10/11.Will there be quality players, yes. Will there be difference makers? I highly doubt it. WCS has a decent upside as a defender. He has tons of mental red flags if you talk to anyone that is "in the know" with the UK program, so you will have to really do some background checks and make sure he can handle life in the NBA.

My plan for the 5 this off-season is 1.) get Embiid, 2.) get Asik for a non-crazy price or 3.) curl up in a ball and cry in the corner.

1. Give up the Embiid dream now! 2. I dont see us trading for Asik. 3. Save the crying for when Jack is still on the roster next year because we could not trade him over the summer.

Let me answer that with a look at the lottery what many consider the best draft ever 2003.

1 LeBron James
2 Darko Miličić
3 Carmelo Anthony
4 Chris Bosh
5 Dwyane Wade
6 Chris Kaman
7 Kirk Hinrich
8 T. J. Ford
9 Michael Sweetney
10 Jarvis Hayes
11 Mickaël Piétrus
12 Nick Collison
13 Marcus Banks
14 Luke Ridnour
15 Reece Gaines

McGee has been a 10/8 as a starter. He is a legit NBA player, and an average rotational player.

Now, 4 of the first 5 were home runs. After that, Kaman and Hinrich had some good seasons, better than McGee. So that is 6.

But I would say Ford, collision and Ridnour are at best on the same level. Average rotational player. The other 6, barely had any usefulness.

So, of the 15, 6 were better or 40% and 6 were worse, 40% and the other 20% were on his level.

Like I said, we have a tendency to over rate what a lottery player is. You have about a 30% chance of getting a good player. In this draft, it is about 40%.

I know crazy, but you can do this for any draft. I picked a stacked one, some are embarrassing in the first 15.

Good point. I'm sure there will be busts in this draft too that bring the average down. I was thinking more from an upside standpoint with my initial post...oasis said his hope was that WCS would turn out like McGee, which struck me as odd because you'd certainly hope for more than that kind of deeply flawed average rotational player in the lottery this year.
